Sensational! Got to be happy with that!

I'm desperate for a decent fishing session. Last session was a few weeks ago - for some barely legal squire.
Had to pass on a session last week with a mate, who subsequently landed a 30 kg 138 cm Jew. The bastard.

Odd addition - but given your fishing shirt and 'gaiter' or whatever they call it - I recently picked up the long sleeve hooded UPF shirt from Florence Marine X with the built in 'gaiter' (at least that's what they call it). Damn nice piece of kit, although there's no pockets. Good price too. If nothing else, cheaper than a half-decent fishing shirt plus gaiter/multi-scarf thingo.

... I get my fish from the fish shop.

Dont need a fishing licence...or a boat...dont need to get up in the dark AND never come home without a fish!

When I get to eat the fresh stuff, its at a mates place who rings me when hes caught something.Mostly mackerel, snapper but the odd cobia.

Nothing like getting a line wet. Some of my best fishing stories or days are not even catching anything. But that reel singing is like sitting in a pit, yes i hear more reels singing these days.

Damn right. Even my 8 year now refuses to use bait .. Actually Just packing for a few days bass fishing. One exception though on the bait fishing is for Blackfish.

I get blackfish on weed flies . If they're around you don't even need burley . In the river or off the rocks

I reckon they're under-rated for eating too. Granted, ain't no snapper, but looked after, still fine eating.
We brain spike, bleed and into an ice slurry. I reckon their poor rep as a table fish comes from the old blokes catching them off the rocks, and storing them in a rock pool... nothings going to taste good after that.
And a barrel of fun to catch on the light gear too!

Had best fishing trip late may, mate chartered a boat with skipper, crew gear and bait. For casual charters they pack on 20 but we just had 14 so plenty of room and all mates or mates of mates and good banter.
This was from Coromandel in NZ where there are mussel farms about 45 minutes from wharf, early 6am start boat leaves 6.30.
Total was 92 schnapper with biggest 65cm and plenty over 50cm. I caught 7 with 4 over 36cm. We dropped them off to be filleted and vacuum bagged the next day.

Catch a few Kawaii on my mates sailing cat, when its light winds and the birds are working. Great fighting fish and yes bleed them and in the smoker later - elbows out when they're ready

I'm one of those old blokes that catches em off the platforms and stores them in a deep rock pool but they're in a keeper net alive and kicking and pool gets wash into it, three or four fish and then spike clean and fillet, love em for the chase and the eating.

Had to do it. Had a great session on the Luderick yesterday arvo with a mate. Just so hard to beat hanging out with a mate and watching those floats drift and sink. Came close to filling our bag limit in no time.... but the tide started running too fast. Good size too, bought home 9, and 5 were over 40cm.
Love chasing snapper, jew and flathead on lures... and spinning for Tailor and Macks, but sitting back with a beer (mid strength, of course, mixed in with some of the better zero alcohol beers that are hitting the market at the moment), watching the float drift, sink, and then the fight on the light luderick gear is just soooo much fun.

They're good especially the ocean fish off the rocks . Bleed them and fillet and skin them they're pretty good . A bloke I used to work with used to do them in the smoker too.

Totally agree about their eating quality..

So many fish have a bad reputation passed down through the years by people who don't understand how to respect the fish they keep as food. !!
Weed eating & oily type fish just need to be on ice quicker than say a flathead or whiting.
Any fish spiked , gutted & put in an ice slurry will taste pretty good.
It does my head in when someone leaves a fish dying on hot sand, ..& cleans it hours later,
cooks it days after coming out of a fridge.
Then says the "fresh fish" they caught tasted crap.
Rant over

Rabbs, sounds like you've been to K'Gari/Fraser for the Tailor run - or that you should really avoid it!

Initial care extends storage too. Your tailor that flopped around and died on the sand, then sat on the beach for a few hours before being cleaned ain't gonna freeze well, 'cause it's already no good. I reckon that's where the idea that tailor don't freeze well comes from.
I've had Tailor fillets from spiked/bled/slurry fish that I've cryovac'd/vacuum packed that were absolutely fine coming out of the freezer 12 months later. The only thing I do differently with tailor/mackerel etc is step them from freezer to fridge for thawing.

I went and bought myself a new rod n reel set up on Monday - Daiwa Tatula 200 HD LTD on a Dobyn's Fury FR704C. Got a nice discount on it all, except for the braid. The cost of braid is getting out of hand!
Absolutely itching to 'blood' the new rig.
But I also haven't caught a wave in a couple of weeks, so desperate for that too.
