At what speed does your foil let you get up?

Been hacking away at the flatwater starts and slowly getting them right mainly with Axxis 1310. Now I'm trying to establish at what speed the foil is willing to lift?

My GPS says I'm at 15-17km/h while up on foil, but speed-curve is perfectly gradual up to that point, so nothing indicates when lift-off actually occurs.

My estimate is 10-11km/h.

I guess all it requires is to overlay GPS data with video footage - has anyone done it and willing to share?

I've been flat water paddling and I can only get to 11.2 km/hr which is not enough to engage my foil 1550v2 ,but maybe it would a bigger one ?

I might be able to add to this, as I had my first go of trying a flatwater paddle up on an Axis 8' x 20 demo board yesterday (thanks Stand Up Surf Shop for the use).
Although I got lift off, it was ONLY JUST and I didn't paddle/pump away.

I have been a long time Garmin user but have recently got an Apple Watch, mainly to make calls etc when downwinding, so have been comparing them and had both on at the time.

I had my Apple Watch running Waterspeed which showed
10kph max
9.9kph 2 second max.
9.9kph 5 sec max
Garmin Fenix 6 showed a 12.3kph max.

I have noticed that the Garmin often has little spikes above what the Apple Watch shows so I'm going to go with the Apple.
I believe around 10kph is lift off speed for the setup I had which was with an Axis 1300 and 460 rear.
Next time I just need to put in a couple more strokes and I should be away.

Good info ,Which garmin app did you use ? I strapped the garmin to my waist instead of wrist to eliminate spikes but it made no difference . I use the kite app ...big difference between apple and garmin at those low speeds.

It's a custom app that I configured, I think it may have been a copy of the sup app with wave tracker added to measure waves or glides on foil.
I have noticed the Garmin is prone to get spikes in speed occasionally, I think mainly due to crashes.

I have run the Garmin and Apple side by side a few times just to compare, they are usually fairly similar, just the odd hiccup.

I have been measuring the speed of my attempts at flat water paddle up for 2 months. I don't think I have big enough equipment for my skill level to get up but I am very very close.

The interesting thing is I have been paddling a 6'2" x 23" and with the Waterspeed app I was very consistently stuck at max 7klm/h. Last two sessions I have paddled a 6'5" x 23" e3 kalama and now max at 8.5 k/h and can feel the foil now working so very close.

I always measure in dead flat glass and with no wind. Yesterday a boat started next to me and with the aid of a ripple 10.5 k/h max and board lifting a little.

For the novice paddler like me this seems like it is a game of the slightest efficiencies to achieve success. My observer tells me my unweighting technique is good but the paddle power is a little weak.

I want to flat water paddle up as I think there is a lot to learn there about the subtleties of unweighting and pumping the foil while still paddling.

my Barra is on the way.

Length is your friend - width is your enemy - and power will overcome either.......7ft is the shortest I've paddled up (@ 23" wide) - also tried a 7'6 x 27" = no chance, but a stronger paddler would've pulled it up. My 8'2 x 20 is the easiest to date.

Seems like there is some consensus around the 10-11km/h mark for lift off. Will try and get that video/gps overlay done.
