Driving from Gero to Northampton this arvo, I passed someone on a scooter with a sign on the back "Perth to Darwin" . He had a twin tip lashed to one side, skateboard on the other and a kite on the back. Going about 40km/h on the highway. In for an interesting and long trip I would suggest! Anyone's friend?

I don't know Christian. He's made it 500km from Perth without the cops busting him so maybe it is! He looked very vulnerable I have to say. Long distance cyclists I see a fair bit on the road, but they tend to hug the shoulder and you just pass them. This guy was in the middle of the lane and required proper wait, then overtake. I quite admired his sense of adventure, I hope it goes well.

Yeeeah I know him Dave a good character he normally puts his scooter&stuff in the bus integrity to go back down so he doesn't have to fight the wind back down on a bike I've done that a few times on a motorbike it sucks so it's a brilliant idea!

a bit like why all the yachts move south earlier if they can...just pay storage with integrity put it all underneath and theres your few weeks completed .

Hi..no ..apologies....different chap It seems
But there is someone who uses integrity for his trips (I tend to know people who dont follow the 'norm')

Seems you saw him in advance

G'day All,

Thanks for your concern. Vulnerable?. Yes. Legal maybe. Best trip of my life. absolutely!!!

If you watch my videos I sit between 80-90kmh, same as caravans (camera position shows speedo). Yesterday I was sitting at 95kmh and cracked 100kmh a few times. You must have caught me at a bad time.

I have been riding motocross bikes and road bikes in all shapes and sizes for 21 years. I actually haven't owned a car for 4 years. Four wheels moves the body, two wheels moves the soul. And soul moving is what I need, I just had my second mental breakdown so I am on long service.

But just on why I sit where I sit and do what I do.

I sit on the right side of the lane in the hand wheel track because that's what they teach you on motorcycle course. This is for many reasons but mainly:
- Because the driver sits on the right side of the car drivers they tend to look straight ahead, so they are most likely to see you there, as you did. As a driver you might be frustrated but it is the best way to be seen as the motorcyclist.
- It also forces drivers to go on the wrong side of the ride to pass. If I sit on the left side of the lane then I have to veer right for a pothole but at the same time a car is passing with their left wheel in the right side of my lane, boom I'm dead. Sitting on the left side invites cars into your personal space.

As a driver some of you may disagree with these points but I won't stop using them, cause they have kept me alive for decades.

I am not concerned by any of that though my biggest worry is that you called my pride and joy a scooter. It is a Honda Monkey 125cc motorbike. I ain't no mod I am rocker baby
Where exactly did you see me? Shame we didn't get a session together.

Hi LITS, glad to hear you are going well! I saw you just past the Coronation Beach turnoff, must have been a big head wind that day as you were going maybe 60 or 70km/h max. Apologies for calling your mighty machine a scooter! It was so covered in boards and kit that I didn't get a close look. My wife and I both admired your sense of adventure, with the little sign on the back and all the toys onboard.

Stop at Horrocks on your way back and we can have a kite together.

Have a great trip.

Cheers

Yeah I remember now that day way horrible!!! Probably my slowest so far. Straight into the headwind. But I was rewarded with an awesome session at Gregory. I have a good video coming up for that part of the trip, I should have it out this week.

I'll be back, but next time it will be in a 4WD??. Spectacular part of the world!

I'll post the video here when it's ready:

Haha
Hey hey I knew I was a monkey ..
No I didn't really
All that is true you said..
Also they made the roads more 'wonky' up here as you probably know because of torrential rains so you need to rotate your wheels every six months or so..
Basically they will get threaded on one side..on the right(?)..opposite side to where the rain runs down to and off in the verge
Goodluck with it all
