Hi There,
I am located South of Perth, and my Kite surfing spot is Safety Bay Rockingham. My Kite surfing course is ending, and I am planning to buy a kite (complete package) to practice and would like to use this kite for a few more years.
I have been advised to use a 9m kite as I weigh 78, and my budget is between 3.5 - 4k; and I have been looking into the
Airush Lithium V13 (complete package), which is around 2.7k.

Happened to meet a pro who advised me to go for Nexus Core 3, so is it worth buying Nexus Core 3 as a beginner if it pushes my budget?

The complete package for Nexus Core 3 is up to 5.5k, and below are price quotes from one of the dealers.

Kite - Nexus Core 3 9m - $2399
Bar - Sensor 3Sensor 3 - $899
BoardOzone Base V2 142 x 42 (complete) - $950
Radar HarnessIon Radar seat harness - $429.99
HelmetMystic MK8 - $139
Wetsuit (Full body)Ocean & Earth - $330

Appreciate your advice.

So for your size, i think the board is a bit big and you will grow out of it quickly once you get a bit more confidence. Maybe look for a second hand board to start with and save a bit of $$. I use a 145/42 and I am 96kg.
Also you can have a look at Need Essential Wetsuits which might save you a bit. I got a 3/2 steamer (front zip) for $280. Also not all wetsuits are the same.... Is is blind stitched, glued and internally taped???

Is there a reason you are going with a seat harness? Do you like them? or just haven't tried a waist harness?

Don't know too much about Core nexus, but as a beginner, your kite will spend a lot of time hitting the water, which will degrade it a bit. Most people tell you to go good quality Second Hand for first kite, which will also allow you to get two kites to cover all the wind we have here. Find someone with a bit of knowledge that can help you look at second hand kites. I managed to get 2 really good Switchblades for $500 each that will do me until I get better. And they are great for learning on.

Hi, Thanks for the advice. My training was in a seat harness, so I am unsure about the waist harness.
It makes sense to use the used kites initially. It is only a matter of getting a good one. I will check on this.

I don't think the Nexus would be great as a first time kite setup. I think they are targeted at big boosting riders and are quite specific and relatively expensive.

If you are interested in AirRush, have a chat with Christian Cubulota at KiteBud who sells their full range. He can advise you on best combo and will give you a good deal. tel: 0426177720 chris@kitebud.com

+1 for the Lithium as a first kite. The Nexus is an absolute weapon but you're not ready for that. The Lithium is super floaty and forgiving, exactly what you need, not good for gale force winds like the Nexus but that won't matter to you. And +1 that board will be to big. And seat harnesses are usually just for short people that struggle to reach the bar and people with back problems, I've never tried one.

Hi ck25,

The kite size suggestion is correct if you're going for a single kite package. If your budget is up to 4k, you can get a two-kite quiver Lithium V13 package for that price and go for 8m + 10m. This way, you'll cover a wind range of about 16-17 knots to 30 knots. You can use our kite size and board size calculator here: www.kitebud.com.au/how-to-choose-a-kite-size/

As for the board, I'd suggest something like a 138-142cm to start with at your weight.

Lots of schools opt for seat harnesses while teaching. However, as psychojoe mentioned above, most will wear a waist harness as it offers more mobility and encourages a better stance on the board, especially at the early stages.

I understand that you've already been looking at our package deals. If you'd like to meet us in person, try harnesses, etc. come to our event this Saturday: fb.me/e/2UT8FYV3B

We'll also have a selection of used gear if you prefer that.

Hi ck25,

Kitesurfing can be expensive when you are starting out, but doesn't need to be and of course once you own it, its free to use. The canny buyer can still get good gear without having to go cheap.

Core Nexus isn't a big air kite. The Core XR is the big air kite. The Nexus is the all rounder, good at everything but not great in any one area. The Nexus however is a slightly more advanced kite and as a newbie, you won't get the most out of the kite without a bit more experience.

We teach on, and sell Duotone Neo's to beginners as they are so plug and play for beginners and experienced riders alike. We have a very good condition 2nd hand, 9m Neo SLS in our store which would be a very good kite for you.

I agree with others, the 142 board is too big for anything other than the first few weeks of solo riding. A 136-138 would be a better choice. Most 90kg riders ride 138 so you can see the 138 would be all you would ever need. I'd say stick with a 136 I used to ride 132 at 88kg but now I ride 138 at 95kg.

Morning CK25,
I've just started kiting, and purchased an Airush package in the last 3 weeks, and am super stoked, easy to set up, easy to use, couldn't be happier!
