Hey guys,

I'm heading down to Vic this Christmas to see family and was thinking of taking the gear down.

Has anyone got any tips where to launch, or what wind direction is best there? Also, I only really have room for one kite, I have a 12m that I use up here on the GC for 15-22kn wind and a 10m for over that, which kite would be best to take down at this time of year?

Thanks heaps in advance!

I drove down to Indented Head for a northerly session once, it probably works north, east, or South bit it's a bit rocky and there was no one else around so I drove around to Portarlington which is a nice sandy beach especially behind the caravan park. Locals down there drive to the surf coast for southerlies. I'd say bring a ten, others will say 12, Victoria is always a bit hit and miss. The South Channel Island anemometer is near Indented Head if you're using Seabreeze for wind. I'd hit Predict Wind before your trip. If you don't get any good responses from locals on this thread just Bookface Kitesurf Geelong, Murray Ceff is great for info, he owns the local shop and he's always on the water.

Thanks heaps mate. I've been to indented heads once before and noticed how quiet it is so makes sense people are going to Portarlington - thanks for the tip.

I'm using Seabreeze so will check it out before I come down.
Is there any other flat water spots for southerlies? Possibly Swan bay near queenscliffe?
cheers

Bring the 12 and a steamer, head to ocean grove if winds se to sw, your closest option, 20 mins from st leonards

Portarlington will be busy over Xmas, if you want flat water head to pt Henry, suitable for almost any wind direction, 25 mins

My family usually goes to indented heads for Christmas day... So of it's kiteable on Christmas I'm bringing my gear down. Best directions are either north/northwest or southeast, if it's southerly or southwesterly it's offshore. I've kited there once but it's tricky launching and kiting near shore because of the wind shadow caused by the point, the odd wind flow / shadowing due to the beach cliffs, prickles on the grass / beach, narrow beach and shipwreck/rocks etc. So not the best kite beach but as I'm a kite addict if there's any hint it's working I'll get my kite up. Hope to see you there! (I have a yellow, red and black C4). Fingers crossed for good winds on christmas. Cheers.
