Hi all,
Wifey bought me a Hero 10 for Christmas and I'm keen to mount it on the lines for some footage. Have used a line mount in the past on a low V (Ozone) bar and it worked a treat. Sadly I lost the mount in a move so looking for suggestions on replacement from the brains trust.

Am now using a click bar on Duotone kites with a high V. Wondering if anyone has some advice on the right line mount to use for this setup? Would I mount it above the V (possibly too high and the V adjuster would be in the picture), or can it be placed below the V separating the front lines in the straight section (possibly will spin all over the place due to lack of lateral stability from the lines).

Any and all advice would be much appreciated and would love to see some of your shots from a similar setup.

Simon

For me, above the Y split was too far away. I'm mainly on a twintip or hydrofoil though. I think it might work alright on a surfboard as you mainly want to be capturing the spray off the lip and the carves so you want a wider field of view anyway.

When I spoke to Duotone team rider, they mentioned that they initially mounted below the split and then later on they just ran the kite in low V mode when using the line mount. The guy was riding an Evo SLS when I spoke to him but I think he does the same for his Dice. He did say there was a little difference in the handling but didn't seem to think it was too bad.

I also like the UGO line mount (above). I've seen a few of the other brands break (Beastmount).

Apparently you don't need the Go Pro Max mod for the horizon levelling with the gopro 10. There's supposed to be a setting you can change and just keep using the standard lens. I'd recommend looking into that though.

Thanks for the responses.
The 10 has been pretty spectacular so far for shallow underwater and other family adventures. Its a pretty handy little camera and very capable. Looking forward to seeing the quality of the kiting footage.
Will look into the U Go and have a play with the Y split to see how it affect performance before buying.

Hi Simsurf,
GPro10 tick - As an alternate to line mount might be of interest - I originally bought this mount on SB!! - (It attaches to the center strut on LEI kite) when bought GP Hero (Hero still works). It pre-dates line-mounts - the photos where g8 but a bit distant compared to other water cameras at the time (my avatar is one!!)- but am planning to get LEI kite out to test GPro10 - the quality - the stabilising and the ease of re-adjusting horizon in modern s/ware likely help to allow much better proximity control...
ATM - I dominantly fly PEAK4 kit foiling so have had attached camera to me or board - can be is too monotonous due to limited perspective when on ocean..
Cheers

I have the same question. I've filmed alot from the high V and it is okay for looking at manoeuvres but not very good quality for much else. The only real option I know of is getting a cheap low-V bar for filming days.

Depends what you want to film really.

The footage from the backpack/harness mounts can be pretty cool if you don't need to see your face. I've seen lots of good boosting shots from these as you get a nice perspective of height.

You can get really nice footage from a selfie stick held with the back hand too. The advantage of the stick is you can move it to show your face if needed. Can get some good spray photos from this but you need to be good enough to fly one handed. I think this is a really nice example of the type of footage you can get:

Then the pros often film with mouth mounts. The main advantage being that a lot of the camera shake is reduced but you are a bit limited to having to hold out the camera.

dont worry too much about the distance of the camera using high y. I personally dont mind the further away shot and if you shoot in high quality setting you can always crop the video to get a closer shot and give different perspectives.

this video was done with a trust bar with high Y www.instagram.com/p/CIUJb58gMeX/

on the click bar you can adjust where the lines split anyways so if it worries you just make that adjustment an position the camera at whatever distance you like.
