Western Australia's Top Kiteboarders Crowned - NKL Round 2

The Classic Holidays National Kiteboarding League Round 2 in Perth came to a close yesterday with Western Australia's best kiteboarders battling the wind and the waves at The Pond, Safety Bay.

Despite a soft start to the competition with marginal wind on Friday and kiters grounded on Saturday, the competition continued on Sunday with perfect conditions.

Competitors represented Western Australia in Round 2 of the six round series, with the top Freestyle and Big Air riders for the state now heading for the Grand Final in February 2017.

At the close of competition, the Western Australian riders topping the state rankings were:

Freestyle Men's 1st: Harrison Johnson Men's 2nd: Emerson Johnson Men's 3rd: Ben Field

Women's 1st: Shannon Ducker Women's 2nd: Rachel Hughes

Big Air Men's 1st: Louis-Philippe Rouillard Men's 2nd: Ben Field Men's 3rd: Emerson Johnson

Women's 1st: Rachel Hughes Women's 2nd: Shannon Duckerv

President of Kiteboarding Queensland & Northern Territory Inc. (KBQNT) and NKL Event Director, David De Witt, said the bar has been set high for the rest of the national series.

"We would like to congratulate the Round 2 winners and all the competitors for making it a great contest," he said.

"It was a slow start but the wind picked up for some perfect kiteboarding conditions and both the Freestyle and Big Air categories were a fierce battle."

"We have seen so much kiteboarding talent here in Perth and look forward to seeing what Christchurch has to offer us next week."

The NKL now sets is sights across the Tasman for Round 3, with New Zealand's top riders heading for their event in Christchurch from 9 - 11 December at The Estuary.
