NKL Grand Final On The Horizon

The Classic Holidays National Kiteboarding League (NKL) has its sights set on the Gold Coast for the second annual NKL Series Grand Final this weekend, 17 - 19 February, 2017.

The top kiters who qualified from around Australia will represent their state at Narrowneck Beach in the Freestyle and Big Air categories to compete for the NKL Championship.

President of Kiteboarding Queensland & Northern Territory Inc. (KBQNT) and NKL Event Director, David De Witt, said the 6 round series would culminate in an exciting grand final match up.

"We have seen some outstanding kiteboarding talent during each of the state rounds and are very excited to see the best of the best battling the wind and the waves at the Grand Final this weekend," he said.

"We encourage the public to come down to the beach and watch the spectacle of kiteboarding live from Narrowneck, with some of the country's best kiters boosting big airs and showcasing tricks in the Freestyle category.

"It's not only a fantastic opportunity to view the action packed sport but for all ages to come and experience the sport for themselves at the 'Have a Go' sessions from 11am on the Saturday and Sunday."

The free 'Have a Go' sessions have been a positive step for the sport, with newcomers learning to fly a trainer kite on the beach, with coaching from experienced kiteboarders. Close to 1,000 people Australia-wide have participated in a 'Have a Go' since the event series began in 2015.

The NKL Grand Final Freestyle competition will be dependent on wind and weather conditions, with the competition window open for three days to maximise chances for the best conditions.

Mr De Witt said the Freestyle kiteboarding action could all occur on a single day of the competition window if the best conditions were met, however the Big Air intermission is set to entertain crowds on each of the three days, with daily prize money on offer for the top scorers.
