Hey all, if you got a speed strip I'd recommend getting your young ones onboard with you. Me and my son hit 27kts today. Not that fast? It was for him at 8 years old.

To get the second boom on, don't thread the bottom half of your sail through the mast. The best way to start was a beach start with my harness already hooked in and jump almost straight into the straps during a 30knot plus gust.

Stoked young boy (and dad) in the house tonight!

FYI I got 32.9 today when riding solo and on my smaller wave board.

Did he mind when you fell on him and drove your harness hook into his head at 50 kmh?

Very cool and great speed for a wakeboard too. I find this method makes them want their own board, as fun as it is they end up getting sick of getting wacked in the back of the head by your harness hook.
Was a cold today was it? Had to wear a flanny,a Westy wetsuit.

I've only got a short arm steamer at the moment so I had to wear the flanno because I was cool.

I feel sorry for people that look at a photo and instantly think of any dangers. He could have been eaten by a shark too, probably about the same probability.

I have windsurfed with him like this catching waves when he was 6. Speed sailed about half a dozen times now and he loves it.

I'll put a disclaimer on my first post.

It is great what you are doing and so good to see a young bloke enjoying one of the most exhilarating sensations I have ever experienced - pity it was after I was 45 yrs old :)

I do however think like Sparky. Falling or catapulting is much more likely than a shark attack. At that speed a harness hook on the back of the head or smashing the face into the boom with potentially your weight/momentum would have severe consequences for your son. I wouldn't stop what you're doing but would definitely consider a helmet, mouth-garde and and impact/life jacket for the kid.

Dunno what you lot are on about , kids are always pushing boundaries.
Not only is lil Jordy possibly the fastest 8 year old windsurfer in history but had his legs bounced out , still managing to hold on , he would have smashed the body drag record also

Some more bad and reckless parenting activities me and my kids have undertaken.

Haha, I'm pretty sure my kids like me will be glad that there patents let them experience stuff that had an element of danger. To be honest I'm more worried about them crossing the road or being in the car.

How inspiring to see your lil boy getting taken for a ride. Keep him keen & who knows he might be racing in the PWA. tour one day.

Yes it's great to have active kids who aren't playing on iPads all the time. And I see he isn't an only child, you have spares!

That's mint! I reckon the flannel shirt is more of a concern than safety...

For the record my young bloke hit 80kmh on skis at 8 years old. He pissed his pants LOL

Check out Pieter Bijl and his son making a perfect gybe in similar style (starting at 20 sec).

I reckon this is from about 1996. We water started but didn't attempt a gybe.

Are you serious?

Dude,

In the case of a catapult, you smash his forehead or neck into the boom with your groin or harness hook into the back of his head.
Look, I can see that it is very unlikely that it is going to happen, given both your skill and experience levels.

But it only has to happen once.

The photos of your son posted above may take on a very different context.

...

Get him his own board.

Describe what happens to your kids when you pull out on a truck daydreaming on the road. Or worse still a truck driver is daydreaming. To me that's at a higher probability of happening then me getting catapulted in ankle high chop going in a straight line. In the extremely unlikely event I do get catapulted the probability of my son getting stuck between me and the boom again is at a extremely low risk. I've never been catapulted into the boom only ever up high around the mast. My son is t hooked in so would go in a completely different direction.

My risk analysis says it's fine to do and I'll be doing it again. My 5 year old is coming next time.

He has his own gear but can't sail it in 35knots yet.

Seriously, I think all you guys should stop going onto seabreeze posting. Do you know the potential issues related to RSI.
