Great stuff!
Reminds me why I keep it slow and safe now, at age 70.

I don't get some of these guys who have no helmet. I'm not keen on wearing a helmet, but I think I would if I was doing that

How is the guy at 1:52 being filmed? Camera mount? Drone?
Nothing appears to be connected to the board. rig or sailor? I couldn't imagine a drone flying that fast and accurate in those conditions?

He is a good friend of mine from back in Ireland Oisin Van Gelderen, Irish speed record holder (46.21 knots ratified at Luderitz). The camera is a 360 degree jobbie that edits out its own pole mount. Oisin developed the harness mount and has perfected it. His father was a famous wildlife cinematographer who developed mounts back in the 50's so its in the blood. This video shows the beginning of that clip and you can clearly see the shadow from the pole giving a clue how it functions at about 10 secs in.

I think you will find that in spite of looking seriously quick these runs are 'only' warm up laps. When shaving points of a knot off the guys ditch any misplaced weight or windage (even using one sided booms) and will don the helmets to avoid the smashes.

Why don't they dig another channel for the goofy foots ?
It would double the sales of one way fins

Having had a whoopsy doodle myself a few times, at half the speed these sailors are doing on their "warm up" runs, i still find the lack of a helmet/impact vest quite disturbing. Especially with all that hard stuff close by.

Wouldn't they get better wind if the leeward side of the trench was lowered? That pile-up of sand on must be messing with the flow of air at windsurfer level.

Good point. I'm surprised no manufacturers, other than starboard, have introduced one way boards?
