I've got a slingshot Wizard 125 with 65 and 76 wing and am getting around the gybes on about 50% on the foil. We've got a few big bays and headlands that need exploring here so some long distance sailing is on the cards so I'm thinking iq foil.
Anyone used one for knobbing about? It'll be paired with the iqfoil and a simmer SCR 8.6 sail. Are they swines to sail or ok?
Expensive but I figure at least the shape is relevant for the next 4 years at least so should retain its resale if I get upgradeitis in a few years.
The iq foil is easy to sail, the board is a personal preference. There's a lot of curves in the rear half. It pumps up better than most & with the hgo 9.0, it's a really good & well sorted package.
How does the iq compare to the slalom, I guess just a tad wider makes the iq better at up and downwind, but is it a crock of crap on a reach?
How's the hell did this end up as a quote?

Take a look at the iQFoil 85 or foil race 85 or freeride 150 (also an 85). They could be a good compromise.
Not sure I'll need a compromise as I'll still have the slingshot, so I'd rather go each end of the spectrum. ??
The IQ does look pretty tempting. Not sure the wizard tuttle will take the IQ tuttle though?
I can confirm the original green (OG) one will not.
The IQ foil 95 is heavy! 11,25 kg vs 9 kg for Patrik or FMX.
Should be able to take a beating though as it is designed for heavy use.

You tried to delete something and the javascript editor went to crap and wouldn't let you put the cursor where it needs to be. Click "Plain Text Editor" at the top of the box when editing to fix things. You'll see some formatting tags in braces so put your comment after the one that closes the quote box "open brace / quote close brace"
I have a slingshot set up myself, and daughter just got iqfoil 85 foil and board. Im really looking forward to trying it and contrasting the two. Unfortunately our lockdown in UK means I cant get on water until 29th, and schools will be out then so she will monopolise it.

Looking forward that review!
Sorry, meant I'll still have the slingshot Wizard and infinity 76/65 combo. Likewise smidge, awaiting a spin on a mates iq before I pull the trigger. Get this lockdown out of the way quick!

So you would get the IQ foil board too?
Yeah, that's the plan at the moment. Interesting that the iq seems to have been built to last as well.
My impression of the iqfoil build quality from hanging around and chatting to some of our top sailors is that the adult iqfoil board (blue and bright red) is more robust than a pro formula foil board. But its still a high performance race board so robust is a relative term and if you go over the front you are going to break it. The youth iqfoil85, which is in starlite (the blue and white one) is supposed to be as robust as you can get in modern construction (will test that hypothesis shortly!).
The Olympic one design sails have been beefed up a bit versus the standard race ones, including less pressure on mast to reduce mast breakage. But its always going to be easy to break a 9m sail when you put your entire bodyweight through it via your knee or head. The beefing up is more about surviving more wear and tear than surviving smash ups.
Pity they don't do the 95 in starlite! Or maybe the back of the board in carbon reflex and the nose in starlite ??
I've pulled the trigger on the IQ board and foil, so for long distance light wind racey stuff that will do, then for knobbing about the slingshot. I'll let you know how I get on, there's going to be a lot of km covered

I imagine with time, you'll push the envelope quite a bit. It'll be great having a kit where you can say, I'd like to sail over there and make it happen. I, too, have two sets of foiling kit and both have their magic. Love being able to grind miles upwind and back and just as much surfing swell with small sail and big wing.
OK it's arrived, looks slightly consequential :) First thoughts are how do you carry the bloody board, it's so big in evey dimension, the foil is a thing of beauty, but unfortunatley the mast has to go back as the holes on the underside don't line up with the holes in the fueslages so that would end up with some cross threading. The rest looks really well manufactured and designed. It's going to eat the miles up that's for sure, luckily in North Wales we've got a few fantastic spots for foiling and day trips. Abersoch to Harlech and back is going to be on the cards as well as trips around the islands. The Bay at Abersoch to Llanbedrog and around tudwalls island feels small on the Slingshot as it is! Get this bloody lockdown out of the way and we're good to go!
Sounds nice, I'm a few miles West of you in Dublin, did here to Rhosneigr on a big slalom board a few years back, been thinking a repeat on the foil might be interesting ??
Luckily my local spots are all within the lockdown travel limits over here so been managing to get some time on the water.

Strange that the mast and fuselage holes don't align. You would think that these masts for the Olympics are millimetre perfect.
In the mast head the middle barrel nut was rotated slightly, so I've fixed that, all good now. All hidden under a daft plastic cover, no idea why that is there when they could have made the mast connection a little larger.
They're quite well made, counter sunk holes in the wings look like they've been done with a cheap wood bit, slightly hexagonal. I'm used to messing with steel work though where tolerances are a tad tighter.
Foil covers are not included, that's pretty much a dumb ass move. Luckily I've got an old wetsuit so will adapt the arms and legs as covers.
The plastic cover is to prevent carbon to aluminium corrosion. The earlier versions didn't have this, and would corrode very quickly in that slot.
All the barrel nuts can rotate slightly so that the bots threads lineup.
Important for the Tuttle foil head, where the holes may not be exactly in the correct position
OK so there is a reason for it, maybe having holes to access one side of the barrel nut would have been good but I'm splitting hairs here. Just want to get out and sail the damn thing!
Yeah, the board is 11kg with I guess 5kg of foil, Chuck in an rig and I've decided she's got steel vertebrae
