Very very nice shooter, what conditions do you swing between single and 2+1? Can you feel big difference?

You re killing me Andy, my ongoing dilema for my 6'10 ish "performance" midlength is:
mote massive twin
Russ Short 3 fin bonzer
CC nautilus quad
thomas or Vouch twin fish

i know I know just buy Them all..... but I can only buy one at this point ..... I am torn ...... and need to sell a board on gummie first!

Nautilus bonzer maybe.

I got mine second hand but new id go the bonzer.. Love my Campbell bros bonzer. They seem to have the good bits of both a quad and single / 2 +1

Good thinking SP.... I am a bonzer guy as well

Definitely take a listen to the pod then dude... They sound pretty siiiiiiick and David Lee has exposure to A LOT of boards so he knows his stuff... But I reckon you'd be stoked with anything from that list.

Probably more depends on what else you have in the quiver though.

I reckon 7'ish Bonzer maybe is my hole, that was what I needed yesterday, something a bit shorter than the 7'7" for a bit better duck diving and steeper drops.

I had a couple of mote's and they're good quality. I love the outline of the massive & the way Torren Martyn surfs them is dreamy.

I dont totally dismiss david scales comments but would take more notice if the review was from someone like Devon Howard or if he interviewed Simon jones. I think this is his light bulb moment, coming to terms with there is life beyond a pointy nosed shortboard.

I find more knowledge and experience through talking to crusty old salts in person or in forums like this.

I do miss walking into a shop full of pointy nosed, white 5'10' thrusters and being greeted by an overly eager grom telling me what my literage should be though

I'd LOVE to surf one of these, you've had yours awhile now and sounds like she's lived up to the hype... How big is yours?

I nearly pulled the trigger on a 7'6" on GT awhile back, wanted about $800 though and wouldn't budge.

Ha ha..... I love the tail and the rails but the nose concerns me tux. Looks like it will catch in lower tide beachies that I often Surf, I had a beachbeat pacer which was a similiar outline but didn't thrive in steeper waves. I prefer the nose pulled in a little bit which makes duck diving easier as well....... you may well be on the money but given my gut instinct I d like to try before I shell out $1,500!

That thing looks unreal!! how does it go in steeper sucky stuff? thats kinda the gap in my quiver...

I reckon i'd be 7' to 7'2" though...

I am attempting to shape something to fill this gap but i reckon it'll end up pretty rubbish

Only surfed in 3-4ft sucky beaches and its into them fine, hanging out for some decent swell with good waves as Im thinking it will be really good.I agree a 7'0-7'2 would be a perfect and without having to order one i had to settle for this second hand but glad I did.Had a couple of Bonzers before and am looking at a CI/Campbell Bros thats selling at a reasonable price but it belongs in another room or another thread.

I'll chime in because I had a similar dilemma a few months back. I saw "performance mid" mentioned on the previous page which is what I was looking for. I've watched a fair bit of footage of the MOTE Massive mids and I'm hesitant in calling them performance mids. Don't get me wrong I can definitely see one in my quiver but it would probably be replacing something like my flat tracker. They look (and sound) like cruisey mids where you draw nice lines and draw out turns etc. (probably much like boards you currently have). IMHO a Nautilus for instance is a totally different beast, bridging the gap between shortboard and mid. Russ short and Mid Vish also look to have a little extra spice.
I guess you just have to ask yourself whether it's cruisey and flowey you're looking for or something that can do that but also be surfed a bit more aggressively? I think the latter, something that allows a little more rider input would be fun in bowly beach breaks etc.

Yep I think you re right.... more self analysis and sleepless nights required

toobz is muddying the water further with the omega shout and his Gary Mac. There is probably a performance pendulum with the nautilus and Gary McNeil at one end and Tux with his Howard mini mal at the other end

Personally I like to maintain a longer rail line, I really don't like dropping under that 7'6" length but sometimes the waves dictate I guess... I'm also a Cruisy (aka Lazy) surfer so I want the board to do the work...

My fish was similar volume to Lizzy but I just didn't the same glide and feedback when you bury the rail on a nice carve... So i'm looking at something similar/slightly less volume to 7'7" Lizzy but around the 7'2" region I think...

The nose isn't as wide as you think and the roll in the bottom combined with the super fine rail shape prevents any sort of pearling as far as I can tell...

I like to use the extra paddle power to get in nice and early setup my line and away you go..I've ridden mine in everything from 8 foot heaving pits to 1 foot grovellers and it will performs awesome in all of that and most in between...if I could only take one board I'd take that every time...I love the super fine rails and the ability to ride futher up the board when required but if you shift back its more than capable of handling a more aggressive style of surfing...I ride a 7'2

The keels on the bonzer 3 are quite toed in although the angle of the board accentuates it as well, probably better perspective if I stood the board upright. It has a 7" True Ames fin in it which is pretty stiff, which will be good for when the swells up and I have a shapers flex fin to try for the smaller days.
This weekend is looking good for some waves at last.
