Creek iAlways enjoy your posts, can you please give me some information re the vest you are wearing ,protection/ floatation?,I think that time is coming for me !

Hi jaw, thanks for the kind words!

Funny thing is, I only used the impact vest, because I prefer it over a wetsuit.
the air was 11.6c and water was 15c and I didn't want to be restricted by a wetsuit just yet.

The vest is pretty sweet
Liquid Force "Ghost" competition impact vest - probably listed under windsurfing or kiting
Size is XL which is pretty amazing since I am XXX in most everything.
I ordered it slightly small so it wouldn't lift up during a wipeout.

Works great, comfortable, doesn't lift up and gives a nice float (like Surf'nJ mentioned)

but mostly I like it cuz it gives me "abs"

No waves and not the best weather but at least the winds were low and off shore on Port Phillip Bay, it was time to stop obsessing over my new board in transit and just remember the simple things.

Awesome beach we found at the top end of Siargao Island, Philippines, photos don't do it justice, small 2-3' reef break a short paddle out, no one out except me and another surfer, unfortunately forgot to put the GoPro on the board when I paddled out so photos are after I came in.

Can you hire Sups there or did you take your own. It looks awesome there and not crowded. I have wanted to go there for a while, I think it's somewhere one can stay for a while and surf most days somewhere.

Lizardman

I live on the isalnd, although I work in the oil and Gas industry offshore I'm home every 6 weeks. Plenty of uncrowded surf around the island, little busy around Cloud9 area but some good outer reef breaks not too far away and north part of the island has heaps of breaks with no crowds.
Not really many SUP's on the island mostly surfers, I've got 4 of my boards, but come next year I'll have at least 4 other SUP's and a swag of surfboards along with a couple of older model Prado's fully kitted to rent out to get around the island. Help pay to keep me home more than away!
It an addictive place and hard to leave once you get there.

It sounds like you are living the dream and I'm jealous. Hopefully I will be able to get over there next year and it would be great to be one of your first customers. I am looking for somewhere to chill out and Sup surf and attempt longboarding for a couple of weeks. I've read a bit about it and have seen a couple of surf videos on YouTube.

Officially last surf on the Mana, new Smik arriving later this week so time to retire her after 7 years, well until it's small and bumpy anyway.

Thanks, how do you rotate the pictures, I have edited them before and rotated and saved them and they still end up the wrong way? We caught a lot of waves this weekend but really looking forward to a little less volume to punch through waves.

Hi Dave, I just drag the image onto my Mac's desktop, double click on the image to bring up preview and use the rotate tool, or drag it into Apple photo's either works.

Look forward to the first post of the new board, hoping for great waves for you.

Steve.

Solid shoulder height on Sunday morning and the onshore wind overnight that brought in the swell decided to calm down until the late morning when I came in. Unfortunately I had issues with the Dawn Patrol app so it didn't record my initial session from 7:00 till 8:30 when I came in for a hydration break. I then paddled out again and this time managed to get the app working properly.

Everything clicked and it was very much the session of the autumn so far for me. Landed nearly all of the re-entries. Did some floaters etc. I am still amazed what this 10'2" Wedge can do, but I felt like I could really do with a shorter board.

I probably should have brought the Hypernut along, but the forecast was predicting that the onshore wind would still be howling, so it was a huge and pleasant surprise to see glassy conditions when I got there. I am still struggling with the Hypernut when it's a bit rough, so have been using it mostly to learn how to foil, instead of sup surfing. Then when it's good, I worry that I may ruin the session, so take the Wedge anyway, because good isn't an every day occurrence and I fear wasting the opportunity.

We ran our second (pretty successful) SUP Festival just south of Wollongong (NSW) over the weekend and had picture perfect conditions for most of both days!
The swell could have been a tad bigger but we had an absolute ball in the super clean conditions.. The tide was spot on and the wind was light offshore for most of the morning (that never happens!)

Anyway, so stoked at how well it went I had to share some pics.. Credit to Phil McCudden @ PM Ocean Images for the legend water shots and Giovanni @ A Frame Media for the shots from the beach... still frothing!!

I'm surprised that you could find a spot out there.i went to Cat Bay on a week day morning about six months ago and was shocked at how many surfers were out. The popularity of the Island post Covid is frightening.

It was busy yesterday but schoolies have finished and a lot of people have retired down there so the general population is much bigger these days. Low tide saw very few out and strangely there were only 3 of us n the point break and the rest were all along the beach breaks. Not one SUP on any breaks except for me which I thought was interesting.
worse part was I was out as the tide was coming in and picking off the smaller waves while the two locals had the big sets coming in right on the rocks. I had a couple of ok ones. Then I swapped to the beach break but too many people hassling and paddling right in front of me so I had less luck there. Got to the top of the cliff and saw the sets coming in perfectly on the point, wanted to go back out but had to leave. Wind had dropped to nothing and the sets were perfect but not one of the young guys went to catch them, they stayed on the beach break.
In the 80's the point was the destination not the beach in that area, times change?
