A short clip of one of my local haunts. A short, fast, very hollow bowl on the northeast coast of Okinawa. When I was shortboarding, this wave is almost a 100% barrel and make for me. On a SUP, I mostly get smashed, and on a 10' longboard it's almost an unmakable drop, even at head high. There's another wave way inside that I was on this day, but 15, or so pronies showed up, all at the same time, for a single peak wave... So I paddle the 1km out to this spot, and had loads of fun. I'm mentoring the grom on the shortboard that goes over the falls on the second wave

The reef is beautiful, but I would not want to see it so close up in those cicumstances!
What a beautiful spot. The low tide on oki is definitely a factor. That I something how the water magnifies the bottom making it seem even more shallow.

Working on it. I just hate the camera, and no one else to shoot... Like day before yesterday I got two full-cover barrels in head and a half surf. Did I get those on video? Nope, but I got the 10 shots of eating it

LOL, oh yea. Plenty of skin left on the reef here in the last 30 some years Took a long time before I was brave enough to ride it on a SUP.

No need to imaging, I'm pretty intimate with the reef here :-) As long as you take care of it, you're good, and it happens a lot less than people would think. I'm pretty vigilant about scrubbing it out and keeping antibiotic ointment on cuts for the duration.
