Ah interesting, is the tail on the flash more narrow? I know it looks more pinny at the end point (the acid looks more round?) but thought that the acid with the flyer tail would still be more narrow?

Do you notice any difference in the bottom contours with how it handles? The flash with its straight single to the acid and it's (single to double to vee?)

seems to be a very tweakable board, creeek is working on his flatter model - perhaps name suggestion the 'stash' or 'flush'?

THE FLUSH ...LOL .. what about royal flush .or sunova S bend .

have a look on page 2 ,has a photo of the tails .but yes flash is narrower .

maybe ask the CREEK about concave ,and application ..what works and why ...

i can only compare the bigger 9,0 boards ,but I'm sure the smaller sizes like yours are very different boards ,as far as
lightness and more throw around ,
I just wish i was a young buck again ..to ride them ..but i ride as small as i can handle ..wish I'd brought the 8,9 instead of the 9,0
but ,it still might happen

i would also like a flatter rocker flash ..but then it might not be as good on big drops .it seems to have a constant rocker line
where the acid is more flatter at the rear ,not a kicked up tail like the flash .when i put the flash in flat water it sits right out of the water
and only half the rear fin is in the water ,where the acid is sitting down a lot more ..

if i was to change the 9,0 flash ,i would make it narrower ,30 5/8 like the 9,1 acid .a bit nicer in the bowl .

Loving mine. It will get a serious testing at our annual surf trip in 2 weeks time.

I have a 8'6 flash in the van for a test paddle tomorrow. I know it'll be way too small for me but just trying to get a feel for it. The 8'9 Would be the board for me I think.

I'm still eyeing off the 8'10 creek as well which I'll test out sunday/Monday. I feel like the creek might be a bit easier to paddle. The flash seem to have alot of rocker.

We have about a foot at the moment so really hard to test boards.

Keen to hear how you get on- the flash is an interesting shape, performance and rocker yes, but still quite stable.
I was really surprised at my 8'0, it was the shortest, most narrow and lowest volume board I'd ever had yet stability was definitely easier than expected

I'm shocked to report that the 112l flash was stable and quite fun! Though I did notice I'm slightly forward of the handle so the nose can go under easily if I'm a bit slow but that might be different in bigger surf. Hard to really test in the small surf and glassy conditions. I have it for a couple of days so will try to take it out in some wind this afternoon.

I remember testing the 8'7 flow a year ago and struggled with it big time I think I lasted half hour before my Legs were aching... Would be interesting to see what it's like to me now or maybe the flash is just a more stable shape?

That's awesome! Had a feeling that might be the case. It has really thin rails which most people say increases stability, but I find it almost makes it more stable on this board.

the other thing, is that it is only a single concave the full way through the board and I think that contributes hugely to the stability vs a bottom
comcave with a 'vee' which in my experience makes t want to naturally
tip one way or the other.

also interesting about standing far forward- even on my 8'0, in the early days I remember having to stand far forward to catch a wave due to the slow paddling speed and I nose dived a couple of times which I hadn't done on almost any other board. However, give it a few try's and you'll fast learn where you need to be and when to step back and then it's all good.

surfing wise- did you find it naturally wanted to go a lot more vertical than your other boards?

I recently picked up an 8'6 Flash, surfed it once in junk and been flat ever since! At 86kg it feels the perfect balance of ease and performance so far, the rails are a joy to behold. Will be interested to hear how you get on, will post some thoughts if we ever get waves here again!

They are all good points about the shape. Super keen for tomorrow's testing.

I find if I'm further back on the handle the board sits like this "/" where as whem I'm slightly forward it balances better back and forth. I think just means I just have to balance my weight by offsetting my feet a bit more rather than being mostly parrarel stance.

The surf at the moment is seriously 3-5 second wave on this tiny 1 foot wave with no guts. Hard to really tell what it likes to do.. Did hit the foam a few times and it seemed to do it quite well.

Kovert - you aren't on the sunshine coast are you?

I was on a Smik hipster 7'10 until recently and that was more stable than the 8'6 Flash I reckon but the Flash is far easier to paddle and get moving with the extra waterline. I stand inboard and staggered anyway but was surprised how much of the back of the Flash was underwater, thin rails! All the volume nicely focused where you need it. Picks up nice and early though and turns nice and tight, did notice the extra length a bit but more visual than actual swing weight. Can't wait to try it in some decent lined up stuff rather than waist high grovelling!

Took it out in some serious windyslop this morning. Fairly stable but just terrible at paddling. The chop was pushing the nose down if you tried to power into the wind. Which is what I was expecting to happen and I wouldn't really surf in too many conditions like that.

Just a tough call to go the 112l or the safe bet of the 120l. If I decide to go this way anyway.

I have the 8'9 flash.

I used to ride it in all conditions, however have expanded my selection to include an 8'7 flow and a 10 footer.

The flow is currently my go to for most days, i will pull out the flash in 3-5 foot or in steeper waves.

Longboard is for when the mood takes me or when im feeling lazy.

If I could only have 1 board, I'd probably go with the flash....

Also, the fins it come with are quite big, i ride it with a set of standard short board size thruster fins and it makes a significant difference.

First decent surf on the 8'6 Flash yesterday, two sessions at two different spots one a shallow right reef ledge and the other well defined long beach break walls all in the shoulder plus range. Set it up as a quad and I'm absolutely smitten with this board! Did everything I asked of it but faster and tighter than expected, acceleration through cut backs and the speed it can be wound up to are impressive. As long as you're back on the pad the performance is there on tap and can be pumped easily from just forward. Hit some turn combos with more speed carried through than I can remember on previous boards. The thin tail rails just grip so nicely through turns especially on steeper faces and are a massive confidence boost. Look forward to the next surf!
