Pretend the R is backwards.
Haven't had a proper surf SUP for a while.
Liked the 10'6"Fanatic Fly that exited the roof, but didn't love it.
Went through a couple of Nalus that were good, but too low volume for 100kg of Noz to feel comfortable on - I get nervous and anxious in the surf, and water washing over my ankles doesn't help.
Over a year ago, I started looking at the Sunova web site.
The only board that got near the volume I was after - I decided on close to 200 litres - was the Speeed.
Told Helmy what I was thinking, he said I was an idiot.
He is often right.
Forgot about it in the excitement of the Ningaloo order.......

Some time in February 2019, I must have got somewhat drunk, and the idea of a Speeed resurfaced.
Emailed AA, he offered to give me a demmo on a 9'7"Speed when I collected the Ningaloo.
At some point, Tino got copied in too, a plan was hatching. He praised me for having a good rant.
Events overtook me, didn't go and collect the Ningaloo, the Speeed went un demmod.
Helmy reassured me I was still an idiot.
Forgot all about it with the WA trip.

Got to Merimbula November 2019.
No AA, no Sunova.
I was battling with thoughts of "Do I really want to surf?" and the like.
My surfing skills are limited.
I get anxious and nervous, often don't like it.
Asked myself (I often have no one else to talk to) "Do you really want to do this?"
My technique when I catch a wave is best described as "Hold your breath and forget to steer"
I decided I'm not brave enough to take the Nozza or the Ningaloo out when others are around - can't control them, I am a danger to myself and others.
Forgot about it.

Introspection.
If that is a word.
Thought deeply, decided I really want to give SUP surfing a real go.
I'm about to turn 58, and it isn't going to get any easier.
So I need a board.
Late December 2019, emailed AA about a Speeed again.
Disaster - he has sold the shop.
I struggle to meet new people, like to stick with what I know.
Good news is he had sold the shop to Sam Parker, who I met at the Middle Harbour SUP challenge thingy.
I had copied Dylan in on the email, and after a reply from AA, was surprised to get a reply from Tino.
Apparently Dylan was finding his soul in South America.
But Tino would help me.
After a couple of exchanges about a custom Speed, he replied "hey Dude, it's the Nozza!!!!"
I have been noticed.
He started to get things moving, but as to board choice, he copied my email to Rick, aka Supthecreek.
I am dealing with Sunova royalty now! (no references to current royalty embarrassments intended)

Creek sent me a list of questions, asked for as much info as possible as to where I am, what I am trying to do.
Actually a little uncomfortable supplying the level of detail requested.
Back and forward a couple of times, got this reply.
To say I was gobsmacked doesn't cover it.

Hi Noz Thanks for all the info..

Good intel makes for a good mission! I agree with the reservation to surf your Search or even a Point Break, because they would slow the learning curve.Big boards take some skill to turn on small waves.

The Point Break is much easier than the Search, but still a big board to start on.

Your thinking on re-nosing the Speeed is exactly what led me to design the Creek
I photoshopped the tail of my 9'2 Speeed onto my 9'2 Skate, asked Bert to stretch it to 9'4 but keep the rail line and 148 liters of my Skate.

Give it the nose kick and rocker of the Acid and voila'. the Creek was born :-)

However:We have a very good alternative to reinventing boards now.

GenRationThe new line from Sunova

The boards may be designed for the best SUP surfers in the world (Sean Poynter, Daniel Hughes and Ian Cairns)

BUT:They "size up" better for you and I, than any of the regular Sunova line.

I am super excited to have tools in my box that I simply didn't have with previous Sunovas.

Sunova's have always been performance minded. and there was only one board for me to recommend for newbies or the "stability" market. the ONEBut didn't hit the mark for many people.

The GenRation's are exactly the same boards ridden by the pros.

BUT, they designed volume into them, to give them a paddling advantage in competition... this is exactly why they work for US!

I have ridden Ian Cairns personal board, with Sean and Daniel.

Lowest liter board I have ever been able to handle, for an hour in the surf.

Me at 107 kg on an 8'6, 120 liter board means it has a LOT of stability built into it.

The Kanga nose is fuller than the other GenRation's and it has a very flat deck that sits up above the water. while the rails are in the water.

These boards "size up" fairly wide, and I have no doubt they will surf amazingly well.

They have a nice rail curve that will aid you in easy turning without having to get back on the tail, like is necessary on the Speeed.

This board will continue to grow with you as your surf skills advance.

For your needs there are 2 awesome size options9'9 x 34" @ 181 litersor10 x 35" @ 195 liters

I believe the 9'8 is a perfect choice. It will be quite manageable to carry, load and store. and make a nice choice for a 2-piece as well.

They only come in Balsa XXX No decked or finsStock Ledge handle

Premium price because they are designed to win on the World Tour, by the worlds best SUP surfers.

I think your "build thread" on the Breeze will be a huge hit..

Combine your story development talents and a new Sunova line... it will be awesome!!!Your colors and custom deck pad will knock it out of the park :-)

I look forward to any discussion you have regarding your thoughts on this direction. I have the Kanga stats below so you can see all the size options

Peace

Checked out, or tried to check out, the boards on the Sunova website.
Not there!
Searched and found a dedicated GenRation (pretend the R is backwards) site.

"designed for the world's best SUP surfers..."

Doesn't sound like me.
But the 10' x 35 at 195 litres sounds like just what I am after.
Decided I would go the bigger board - when I feel it is holding me back I will downsize......

We may have to CrowdFund Nozza for future board build project threads if Ann (the wife one) finds out about the new build...

And to clarify - I don't think I've ever called you an idiot.
Crazy yes, idiot no...

I have rechecked the correspondence....
When I first suggested a Speeed, your response was "Why???"
When I mentioned AA thought it was the go, the response was "AA can surf, you can't"
So yes, idiot no....

I wonder how many Cargo ships run from New England to Norfolk, Tardy?
STC may need some assistance getting there - with or without mutinees!

Hey Nozza
Very cool looking board
Just back from Hobart
do you really need a nother board with all the windsurfing fin boxes etc
Think about the stresses that windsurfing imparts onto a split board like torque through the length etc
Particularly with mast ahead of the split.
I would ditch them and go surfing pure
By the way I am loving the PSH 12
maybe you don't want your collection of them any more.
Another Merimbula trip early in the year should be high priority

Aloha

Can I suggest you make sure to get the tough original grey carbon rails, not the rails my last two boards came with - they fracture easily.

Want the windsurf stuff - I may never windsurf it but If I don't have the option I definitely won't.
Am re thinking the two piece though.

Hey cantSUPenough,
Do you know what the difference is on the rails, old to new?
