Hi,

Complete novice here, so please excuse me.

My wife has tried paddle boarding a few times and has enjoyed it, so I'm looking to buy her a board.

It would just be used on a fairly calm river (Noosa river). She's tried a few different boards, The Red Paddle Co. inflatable, The Kings Inflatable and an Atlantis.

She loved the Red Paddle, not bothered about the other two. I don't want to spend as much as $1600, can anyone recommend a cheaper comparable alternative? Ideally below $1000

I've looked for a second hand Red Paddle, but they just don't seem to come up

Thanks in advance

JJ - check out buy and sell on SB mate - there's a stack of great quality second hand boards that would be perfect for your missus and conditions.
And plenty well within your budget.

Thank you, are there any particular brands to look out for or avoid?

If u paddle something with air in it dont bother ! save your grand for a better choice ! Plenty good price sups around that will outlast a blow up mattress !

Hi, there is a Starboard Whopper ASAP there that you could both use in the river and small surf

I'd be looking at the Sunova One currently on buy & sell.
9'5 x 32" wide, 160 litres and good price.
Check the details out here - sunovasurfboards.com/en/sup

You'd both be able to ride it and it will last.

(no affiliation - just really good boards).
Worth checking out.

The Sunova One is an excellent product and made in Oz too. There is a good video on the Whopper (10'x34"x171L) on You Tube for comparison. I have one and it floats me at 95Kg/6ft. If your wife is smallish the One might be a bit easier for her to paddle. Cheers

take a look at supboardermag.com. I'm not affiliated, and I have gone to them for advice both in technique and equipment. Lots of stuff for beginners. If you join and get their 'pro" content (like 2.50 for a month) it has lots more stuff and you can email them with advice. They review a lot of inflatables as well.
