Dock start tips

Hi foilers
Just knocked my self a prone board up for prone surfing,
Loving the sup foiling just another adition.
Tried dock starting today man it's hard, just looking for any tips from the guys that can do it already.
Foil gear
Axis 68mast
1020 front
440 rear
Long fuse
Board 4'10"
Any help is much appreciated

No tips. It takes professionally athletes around three days to get it, mere mortals...probably should just have fun participating.

Beautiful looking board.

It took me around two 1 hour sessions to make a few successful dock starts. I'm 35 with pretty poor hip flexibility and only weigh 65 kgs. Now I can get it just about every attempt. Want to move on to static and beach starts next. Look up my failure video on insta: @foilgraham

Tips:

1. Run Fast, 3-6 steps
2. adjust your hands on the board as you start running to make room for your feet. You will feel the foil engage.
3. Jump off your front foot if possible so you can land back foot first (I can't do it)
4. I think of landing in a 5-0 skateboard grind (Skateboarding background) . This helps lock a centered balance point, slightly aft)
5. Let the board glide for a moment to gauge elevation drop.
6. As you loose elevation, suck those knees up hard, then place pressure back on the board and slowly stand back up.
7. Repeat, repeat repeat.

You will find that foot placement is crucial. Most of your first attempts are going to end in poor placement and thus failure. If you can also focus on your back foot placement when running, it should help.

Awesome tips Captain I will give it a go, I think I was not running long enough to get the foil to engage by the sounds of it from your advice.

Hey Steve, there's a floating dock right behind AQWA that is perfect for dockies.

A nice trick I have seen is use some rope & tubing to make a handle to hold the board, so you do not have to flex as much the knees to jump on the board:

Ok, I live on a lake, with just/ almost enough wind for windfoiling. Bored when the wind is below 8knots. So is lakefoiling the answer?
Have a few docks 25m apart, so maybe could use a bungie between them to get started. Have a Slingshot i84 hoverglide foil, will get a flanged mast head for a kitefoil, to replace the tuttle connection.
Any suggestions on a board?
Does any wakefoil board work?
Does it need to be made of wood to screw the flange base in, and if so, which manufacturers use wood?
What about a piece of marine ply from Home Depot (Bunnings equivalent for the Aussies)?

I did a few videos on dock starting and flat water pumping technique - sorry they are a bit long but they might help if you have the patience to watch them. The first 2 are tutorials with examples of me starting from a boat (which is essentially the same as starting from a dock) at the end of each tutorial video. The rest are just me pumping. Hope they are helpful.
