This is rather sad to see. Must be a story behind this one. Name sounds familiar. Needs a bit of teak scarfed in on a bit of the gunwale. "Soft" spot inside the windows but an easy boat to tidy up. Yanmar looks reasonable. Encapsulated lead keel in a fibreglass hull.

Chris Sinclair has one. I sailed it to and from Pittwater years ago.
The Swanson 32 has a timber core deck which is a well known weakness often requiring a complete new deck. I suspect this one is good for scrap and why it is on Grays.

They vary a lot. Some have full fibreglass cabin and decks. The early ones had fibreglass bubble cabins and plywood decks some with laid decks on the ply. I nearly bought one with a bubble cabin and beech decks years ago. This one has a plywood cabin and decks. More than 50% were built from hull kits where the owners either fitted out bare hulls or hired the moulds and did the lay up themselves. There is one near me for sale with full fibreglass decks and a stretched bubble cabin for 20 grand. Similar condition almost.
Engine looks to be a Yanmar 3GMD 20hp, so probably dates from the early 80's. Solid engines, but I suspect it may be past the point of a rebuild.
Hi Romona, That's a bit harsh, I wouldn't say similar. The interior of mine is in a lot better condition than the one advertised. Top sides do not the have gunwale stip broken and hanging off the side and my BUKH 20 doesn't look like it has been used as a mooring prior to installation. Admittedly it does need a bottom scrub and the topsides/cockpit need sanding and a new coat of paint though.https://www.boatsales.com.au/boats/details/1984-SWANSON-32/SSE-AD-5312389
I understand from the previous owner it was from Lake Maquarie. I was told the owner past away and his wife sold it after a recon engine was fitted. He didn't mention a name change when I purchased it.
Swansons original design had Oregon laminated deck beams with ply dynal sheathed as the deck .
the problem wasn't the deck structure ,it was when holes where drilled through the deck and the holes weren't sealed properly water would enter the laminate and that was the start of the problem with rot
Swanson also liked oregon masts ?
I am sorry you were the one to have to give it a scrape Ramona. It was, I am embarressed to say a bit neglected of late. It is nice down below and I was more interested in it going to someone who would put in a bit of effort rather than top dollar. The new owner seemed to have the inclination and the time to bring her back to her best.
Just helping out another ex navy bloke even though he was an ex communicator, could have been worst, might have been an ex greenie. Same old story, ex dibdab doing all the hard work!

Is that the sound of a very small violin I hear playing in the background?
Ramona, "Should have moved in close to shore so I can stand on the bottom" - thanks for that gem!
All the time I've struggled with tethers etc and constantly finning, never thought of standing on the bottom
thanks allan
Allan, I would suggest moving your boat in close right at the bottom of the tide and doing the work then. As the tide comes in you have plenty of clearance and this avoids embarrassment!
Does anyone have the contact details for the new owner of Joie de Vie? I have some wonderful pics of her when she was sold a few years ago - on the market for $48,500 - a dream of a yacht, beautifully maintained and I shocked to see what had happened through neglect of just a few years. Heartbreaking. I'd love to pass on these images and the other details I have. Thanks, Elaine
This looks great value
$16900
165 hours on the engine
