That's a nice roomy boat, the 40 horses push it along ok ?

I have a yanmar 55hp and have never used maximum Hp since I brought it. The Bluewater mentioned has a Perkins 40hp which would be equivalent i would imagine.

Wow that looks to be a total bargain. However whenever I see something like that I wonder why?

If it were local to me and I was in the market I would certainly be making all haste to go down and have a look.

Rising interest rates must be having an effect!

Looks like it's gone already and yet the Duncanson 35 still sits there.
I don't think second hand boats of this stature would be bought on credit so it might be a while till we see interest rates affecting this end of the market although as rich boys toys are the first things to go on sale perhaps the waiting list for new boats will be the canary in the coal mine.

I bet UK buyers wanting to spend next summer on a fancy boat in the med are thinking twice now.

I'm thinking more along the lines of home repayments taking a massive leap and boats and cars being unloaded. Certainly happening with classic cars!

I never owned a Dunc 35. However I was told that they had some issues with skeg/rudder attachment to the hull that used to crack or leak. One owner that I knew had issues with osmosis however he sailed his 35 to Japan and back with issue. He did have to fix the rudder/skeg cracking issues. Maybe someone with more knowledge can verify this problem.

Clansman is a nice boat I just found the internal layout to be awkward and cramped. I really never understood why many Australian designed yachts never followed the well thought standard cruising layouts like we see on the UK and USA designed hulls under 35ft?

Is it just 8ft beam vs say 11 for a Catalina?

Yeah probably won't slam as bad when going into heavy seas and dropping off waves. People say they are a bit wet though going to windward due to low freeboard. Built like a brick dot-dot-dot unlike Catalinas and most other modern boats.

Maybe think of it as a folkboat with room inside :-)

I was thinking of the English designs, Nicholson 32, Contessa 32, Albergs, Rustler etc etc Rather than the mass produced designs like the Catalina which were considered to be more day sailers and caravans than offshore cruising yachts. The Chuck Paine designs were also in a similar design league as the English boats 30ft long and 9ft of beam with good stability. Same with the 35 footers, all with 10ft to 11ft of beam with good stability. I am not saying that these boats with these dimensions however their history and offshore Pedigree are well proven. I just wont mention the French designs, 28 to 30ft with 10 to 11 ft of beam. The Australian Nicholson 32 and even the Arends follow the more traditional English saloon designs with sea births, pilot berths and decent storage rather than a stripped back interior like the Clansman and even awkward at best interiors like the Compass 28. The Van De Stadt 34 is good example of a practical cruising layout that is workable for most as cruising laying. Its all subjective I suppose.

Great price! Surprised to see it's a fractional rig - and pleasingly tall.
Midship beam always seemed excessive at deck height to my eye for the length but didn't seem to stop their popularity.

They were developed from a successful quarter tonner. This one has the racing rig.

Fairly common in the USA. Only a few in Australia. That has sold now but it does sound a bit sus. Deposit paid sight unseen sounds like it could be a scam.

Having owned an alternative rig myself, i know they can be unpopular and you dont get to drink with the cool kids at the bar....but 10k! sounds suss, but stranger things have happened.

Carbon masts and I have seen some old ones with serous UV damage so maybe that is the problem and hence the price

This one is cheap at the moment. I doubt whether putting an ad on eBay without photos is ever a good idea.

It does have a link to a video which is very good.

Looks to me as if quite a lot of the ply is formply or structural ply. I didn't know that was the latest fashion in superyacht construction materials.

Most "conventional" sailors, or at least the younger ones who come from dinghies, have owned "alternative" rigs themselves. First a sprit rig (Opti), then an unstayed rig (Laser Radial). The "alternative rig" Sunfish (lateen) is still about fourth fastest-selling class in the world, followed by two classes with "alternative" freesail rig (IQ Foil windsurfer and Windsurfer LT).

I think six of the top seven fastest-selling OD classes in the world have "alternative" rigs (the 420 being the only exception) and currently lots of the top sailors are apparently heaving into wingfoiling. So there may not be any ingrained hostility to alternative rigs. But some of the junk rig guys from the JRA and other places may create a bit of antipathy by making over-the-top claims about their own rigs and incorrect and derogatory remarks about "mainstream" ones.
