Anyone had any local shapers knock them up a light wind board (something similar to a North Nugget)?
Ive got plenty of old boards to muck around with but have a hole in the quiver for something similar to the nugget.

I don't kite in light wind but I'd just go the 2nd hand surfboard route personally. Look for a SP on gumtree?

Otherwise what about a skim, alaia or mini simmons? Star had some skims going cheap recently.

Colin Earl has made a bunch of great boards for me - he's in Osbourne Park.
2 seasons ago he shaped me an awesome little surfboard for Perth downwinders, (5'8, round tail, round nose, Polyurethane core), and I've abused the hell out of it - it's taken way more punishment than my other boards and survived in much better condition than other boards I've had.
The North epoxy boards and a few other 'brand' boards I've used, I've cracked the front heel rail..

I'm kiting a 5'7 x 18.12 x 2.25 CE thumb tail, standard glassing 4x4x4oz, and it's the best board I've ever kited. No issue with construction (yet) but I cracked a FCS2 plug.

Hardly board porn, getting pretty battered and bruised!

I two identical boards built last year (one for me and a mate) based around the current North CSC model. I am away on holidays at the moment and don't have board with me but from memory Mark built the boards at 5'3" x 22" x 2 1/2 - 2 3/4 and around 31litres. I made the mistake (though not a big one) of having plugs put in the board for straps as I intend to only ride it strapless. That said the board is fairly heavy as I wanted it to cope with my weight (110 kg) hence I have had extra glass and (from the pics) carbon fibre layers built up under my heals.

My reason for going for a custom job:
- supporting local shapers (bought a surfboard off Mark back in the 80's and loved it)
- Mark produces quality boards
- cheaper
- getting a board that has extra strength where I want/need
- wanting a glass rather than epoxy board

The board is brilliant, gets up and planing in next to no-wind, carves beautifully. Love being on it.

cheers bene - got a tail shot?
i find in perth my choice of swallow, round, or squash makes a huge difference on ride for the day depending on whether there is any swell or just usual mush.

^^ shthouse - got to admit my first impression was "f$%k that's a boat to kite on" (<90kg) but since you are 110kg it makes waaay more sense.
very nice finish on the board too.

Over on the rock for another ten days and didn't bring that board. Speaking of tails I caved and got a 5'1 vader to paddle and it goes insane. Not into the whole pop-out thing but this stick is awesome - want to try kiting one!

The full board comes up in photos with tail now (cheers), it wasn't before

I saw tomo on his evo in mex last year. Got to run my hands over it... Nearly did the Harry holt with it, it was so sweet looking, but he was too friendly a dude (and rips). Is on my Xmas list.

Evo was a big seller so appear on gumtree regularly. Selling my 5'2 because it's too big for me. Make sure you go small if you get one. My 5'1 is 22.9L and it's like a glove for me at 67kg. I usually like 24-25L.

On topic though, Delta and Stone both do vanguard copies which maybe tweeked slightly would be good light wind boards. I imagine they're better sized small for ripping though. Delta has a bit of a write up on his website on his version.
