After a couple of downwind mishaps where wind, equipment or pre- kite communication have failed ??, we are looking for a tracking device hubby can wear on his body and I can track on my phone. Any suggestions? Research so far have let to SPOT or Garmin InReach.
Garmin Inreach Mini is excellent. Garmin and SPOT are expensive to use. You have to have a subscription.
If he is riding in mobile phone coverage then the Apple Watch is adequate.
How about the new Apple Watch?
You can't track him, but he can call you or anyone stranded halfway through a downwinder or from the water ( 9to5mac.com/2017/11/13/kitesurfer-apple-watch-to-call-coast-guard/ )

Or just put his phone in 4 zip lock bags and put it in his pocket.
He then can call an Uber to get him home or back to his car so you don't need to pick him up!!

You can use Find Friends or Find My Iphone to locate an Apple Watch. Friends and family do that for me all the time. It's good to be having a mid-week session when people can see you're out on the water.
He can use the Apple Watch to call home then go to a cafe and pay for lunch using Apple Pay.
