Hello everyone :),

I wanted to send out a quick msg of thanks to all the guys that came to my rescue in the evening. You guys are all legends. This is why in my opinion the Kiting community is the best :)

I was was out near apex park standing in the water, 1st day back kiting in Melb this season, and a stingray got me on my foot. I have had my fair share of groin kicks and I must say the fury of the stingray barb is comparable. after 2-5 minutes i realised that there was no way I could make it back on my own. Luckily there whe a bunch of kiters out there. my wife called for there assistance an they came, one gentleman in particular even piggy backed me a fair way. and another one helped half way. So awesome I really appreciate that.

Just a tip for anyone unfortunate enough to join the stung club the guys who saved me where kind enough go door knocking to get some hot water for me in a bucket it really helped with the pain :))

Thanks again again guys I owe you one

Amazes me that when southerners come to QLD and are told, almost insistengly, to wear a stinger suit - they freak out! What!? You want me to look like a Wiggle!?

But the reality is stingers are everywhere, and sting rays are no different. But a jellyfish sting is far more painful than anything you could ever imagine. That's why many die.

However, I remember Altona is also famous for that other little poisonous critter - the blue ringed octopus!

Fark one bite from him and you're cooked.

The blue ring toxins stop the bodys voluntary muscle reaction. (Breathing)

If someone gets bitten by a blue ring, just keep giving them mouth to mouth.

After approximately 10 minutes, the victim may have difficulty breathing, become paralyzed, and require artificial ventilation until they can be transported to a hospital.

This is often preceded by numbness or loss of feeling around the lips and mouth. If medical care is not provided urgently, respiratory failure may occur, which may lead in cardiac arrest, and death.

Keep giving oxygen - They will survive.

I remember moving one blue ringed octopus we found towards Apex park end, we had been setting a rail and looked in one of the low tide pools at it was sat there.
