1) Cotton Tree to Yaroomba (Swap if wind is North)
2) 2pm start.
3) Must wear Santa Suit. $12 bucks at Kmart/Big W.
4) Bring a smile.
Lasts years pic from Perth.
Great idea, I wonder how many Santa hats will make the distance.
Also would be a laugh if we all caught the bus back to CT
Just a bump..
Underoath .. Phew spotted your last post ...- nothing like getting back in the saddle -- fate was on your side - glad we ended up hearing about your incident first hand. . You appear to have stayed thinking through out - not sure that would have been easy but best way to get out of a ****ty situation. Hope your kiting love bites are fading..
Santa ride..
Assume this is SUNNY COAST -- yep love to have a larf - will try to nudge family commitments earlier / later once weather shows its hand and plans firm up
now where is my kite knife
Cheers

JZ in da house Spreading the Santa Love from Coast 2 Coast, good on ya mate...................good to see you are back out on the water. I didn't think your last mishap despite it's seriousness would hold ya back....................Rock on Queensland Kiting Santas
Sounds like fun, if conditions are on Im in, I have done that downwinder by myself the last 3 days in a row yaroomba to ct, would prefer to kite with someone else (in light of your unfortunate incident) but its not always convenient to line up.
Im down and got a mate who's keen. Might get some more interest on the Sunshine coast kite groups on fb as well.
keeping this in the head-lights - wind forecast hopefully gets some northerly seabreeze...
If this is a goer will have an esky of coldies at the end - (Water,, diet stuff, and hopefully some www.twobirdsbrewing.com.au)

Winds looking ok.
Yaroomba to Cotton Tree!
The NE'ers tend to be under forecasted on the Sunshine Coast.
OK need to get an idea on interest currently around 10-12 which for a landmark inaugral run is g8...
JIC here is the forecast..
www.bom.gov.au/marine/wind.shtml?location=qld-bris&tz=AEDT
So click thru or run in auto
Estimate the Seabreeze (strongest at Maroochydore) will move the arrows more than forecast along shoreline = N.E.
Likely best time to go will be 2:00 pm onwards..
If the wind are still dominantly on-shore then the push factor is lower = harder to get to Cotton Tree
Alternate = Yaroomba to Mudjimba - call on the day by Underoath..
I plan to have a car / trailer at end point so Meet there and will run equipment to start can give a lift to 5 bodies to start.
I am ugly with pathfinder + trailer attached - so prize for overshooting

Psst The esky will have some 2birds (hopefully a slab - but Dan at Kawana had run out - Golden Ale is yum - yet to try / find TACO (Mexican style -- as If I had to say - doooh)..
Be there .. (if enough sign up = 2 slabs -- no premiees-- only at the end with hat in hand )
If there's enough wind, me and a mate will be going.
Getting suits sorted today, anyone know where to grab one besides Kmart - BigW.
If there's enough Santa,s - could let the local news know.
I just picked one up from the Reject Shop for $8, BigW had them for $15. Any of the cheapie shops should have them.Santa suit kiting at Sandgate tomorrow, sunday, too.
Lads/ladies.
Fingers crossed it's a going to be 15knots plus tomorrow.
If the wind is light.
How about a back up plan?
Use the outgoing tide and east breeze at Cotton Tree for a scession?
Tide won't be working until -4 pm, kited at CT yesterday was very light & still fairly crowded..... but suppose it would be better than nothing.
Well if it ends up at the river we could organise a santa relay race south to north and next one north to south shore 2 teams w baton and a runner etc.. good for a larf
think ok - gokid plans to be Yaroomba about 2:00 (or a bit b4 ) so sounds like a good start...
I plan to leave car / trailer at CT (at present) so can give 5 bodies a lift back to start.

Looking for my Santa suit ... Do you start at the main parking area at Yaroomba? Where the kids playground and that little stream is?
Just another hurdle to jump, there's bugger all car parks at Cotton Tree - the caravan park is full & they have taken over the car park.
Gone Bonkers in the main street in Coolum has Santa suits In stock for $15
Got me fairy wings 4 extra flap...
Trailer is out but at least 5 seats available for lifts back to Yaroomba for car pickup.
I will possibly be finishing at Mudjimba if the wind is really light..
Tips for keeping santa pants on appreciated!!
Will b at Yaroomba 2:00 ish CU there
Cheers

Yeah, that was Awsome
There was a lull when we entered the water at Yaroomba & with a powerful shore break + strong sweep - some lost their Santa hats straight up.
My plan was to hang onto mine at all costs & I actually found a spare Santa hat early into the run & stuffed it into my Santa suit. Alas, my plans were spoiled when I was cleaned up by a set wave - lost my hat/board & dropped my kite all in one hit. My kite relaunched immediately & after finding my board, I reached into my Santa suit to find the suit had been torn in the wipeout & the spare hat was gone.
Conditions were fairly challenging, with light variable wind & a pretty solid 3ft swell - I saw a few Santa,s get washed in with downed kites but as far as I know (I was in the last group) we all made it safely.
Thanks to Underoath (that neck is healing up nicely) for coming up with the idea & AP (shame about you kite) for giving some crew a lift & supplying some much appreciated cool drinks at CT.
And the inaugral Sunshine coast HoHo brigade looks like...
Looking south to goal.. Choppy waves a full on sweep, and variable wind
1 lump of coal handed out to the purple kite.. psssssss
(This one posted upside down - ok when it left!!)
Goal suit intact
G8 - might have had to swim but got there!!
Big hand to Underoath for organising... (on the left)
Cheers
