How would you explain some of norths later renditions of kites

They don't have a clear design philosophy but change it according to what they think people want from that model.

For example, the 2018 Rebel, from the mouths of industry insiders: they wanted to appeal to a broader audience and felt that "high performance" sounded too advanced level for the beginners so they dumbed it down then had to shuffle the Evo to make everything fit. Also, apparently they meddle with designs one after the other through the year, so to keep the model unique to themselves, parameters get shifted.

Compare that with another brand that has always insisted that this model does that and will never be the other, which has showed up in clearly designed and recognizable models year afret year.

Or not, I may be talking crap

Well Cauncy

I see the whole Pro Rider thing differently.
I hope the Pro Riders Drive the design of the kite they fly and work with the designers to create a kite they really like and works for them best.

Rather than some accountant with a JIT management philosophy reducing his supply chain, Driving the design of thier Kites

i'm really happy you like kites with a pulleyless bridle, most of them fly great.

IanR talking out of his rear end, again ^^^
"pro riders" are kiters with very high levels of talent, they could ride any of each others, or other top brands and still rip. I've seen one of those top 5 riders, riding my Ozone Reo's, and he ripped same as he did on his sponsors kites, boards and wings.
Some riders are used by designers, if they can communicate well in a common language, others are not. The point is that they get their kites for free and would rip on any of the top brands kites.

Ozone is not dictated to by an accountant with a penchant for JIT manufacturing. The owners are passionate and active kiters and paragliders and they themselves in conjunction with their designers and team drive the design of the kites.
They have created a very efficient supply chain. JIT has both advantages and disadvantages compared to other methods of manufacture and supply, but we think its advantages far outweigh any downside.
Here is some info about the team and philosophy behind the Ozone brand and products. The info below was written several years ago, so its about 18 yrs since the factory was established. One of the partners has a Vietnamese wife and they are instrumental in the running of the factory. There are now approx 1300 employees, all paid over award rates, with medical benefits and super (almost unheard of in Vietnam) + daily meals provided. Major incentives are provided and awarded regularly for fault free production, and there is a triple check system within the factory at every step in production. All product that is ordered from suppliers for production is quarantined and QR tested before release into the factory production areas. I visited the factories in late 2016 and saw all of the amazing JIT systems first hand, and also sat down and had lunch with employees, as well as attending an awards party attended by over 1000 workers, with the owners.

Aren't you the same guy who insisted that the top racers are winning because of the gear they use, and not, as I suggested, that they are wildly talented?

Oh yes, there's one: "... its clear which kites are consistently in the top 5, and that all that matters." Selective emphasis mine

Totally different sport really. Racing is probably always a combination of skill and $$$/equipment, whether its kite racing, cars, whatever.

Kitesurfing in waves, with dedicated wave kites, I still reckon any of the top 5-10 riders would rip on any brand of gear and I've seen at least one instance of this in real life. The judging of kitesurfing events is also completely different to kite racing isn't it Kevin? Coming first consistently is not subjectively decided, is it?

When it's nuking and I've got too big a kite, I just pump it up to the next size down number of pumps.

So 10m = 55 pumps and 8m = 45. If I want my 10m to be an 8m, I just pump up the 10m with 45 pumps. Then it doesn't expand as much and flys like an 8m. This is a really good way to get in-between sizes.

It also works in reverse, if I want my 5m to be more like a 10m, I just pump it up with 55 pumps. Works every time....

Hilarious!

Some great technical answers in this thread. To (hopefully) end this thread and perhaps give some purpose to the op's posting: Most people will find a 3m jump between kites a wise choice for twin tip powered riding, but a 2m jump is preferred for wave riding with a surf board for the specific reason that a kite works best within a wind range that is dictated by 1. the rider's weight and 2. the planing characteristics of the board. At the point you cannot easily walk with your kite on the beach within the normal throw of the depower line, you are powered such that changing the angle of attack; ie, depower, any further by pulling the trim line and flagging out the kite, has just eliminated the kite's useful wind range. Start moving, thus creating apparent wind, and you are f'd on a surf board. Megaloops and such are now available given a board with minimal volume and thin edge. There is mostly no getting around this. I think kite designer Bill Hansen once designed a kite that had velcro or zippers to make the kite smaller. Imagine, a two kite quiver for 10-30 knots! I bet some foil racer has a custom 6th line that reefs the kite, but a Reo, nope.

Guess it's not been too windy down under, lately...

Beyond your abliities and talent.

Why didn't you demo the Vagas or the Dice?
From what you say I would have thought those would have worked for you.

Just noticed you got a little personal there ,
but a good point of how the kite industry and marketing work, you'd know with your bad teeth and ranger hair, how many times have you missed out to someone a bit more pleasing to the eye,
you know you can perform but you never get the chance

Please don't put the Vegas in the same class as the dice. That's like saying an A. 160 Merc is the same as an Slr AMG... I thought dice were for old men that go out under powerd like all them switch cheapos ..now they on the other hand are flying Barinas :-)

i fly 8 10x2 12 Vegas 2014 /17
9m rebel (should never of bought it)
18m juice.

Ive got click bar custom pig tail set up. It fits my 8 9 10 10 12 on 22m lines. Or I've got them extensions. Don't rate the click bar had failures with it over and over.

Thrust bar tuned for juice 27m lines with the rear lines adjusted so when the bar is on sheet in my back lines are a little shorter then front (over sheet). Can be tuned with the depower on the day.

Tune ure bar bar for the conditions and all will be good !!!!

don't forget when you go to ure local bring your wake skate, skim board,
surf board, twin tip x 3, foil board, sup, meaning what ever conditions your on the water getting wet.
