On the swan we have melville, peli point and point walter but I see dudes smashing it across the river sometimes.

Is there a fine if you get caught?

Where is it not OK to launch a kite? I am also interested in landboarding and want to know if it is illegal to launch a kite on a sports field or park of some sort.

Never mind, old mate tells me you can go anywhere on the river but warns against cottesloe, floreat surf club and between brighton and scarborough inner beaches areas.

I would assume you can't just hop in any lake either apart from bibra lake but I wouldn't as the water quality is pretty horrendous and you might get sick. If you are out back and you see some clean salt lakes without dead branches sticking up, would be sweet to give it a whirl!

Not sure about laws on landboarding though, might sneak into a golf course at night ;)

So does that mean you can kite in front of the city?

Yes you can kite right in front of the city, and people do once or twice a year on a strong easterly.
I know this because my office has a perfect view. Launch from south perth. Not a great spot though.....

Yeah the only place I know of that you cant kite it the bird sanctuary at Pelican Point.
Kiting in front of the city is pretty **** and gusty, better off at Pt Walter on an easterly.

There's lots of places you can't kite. Local government have pretty much got al the coast stitched up one way or another as they lay claim to 200metres out from beach.

As far as land boarding in local parks go, check with your local government as you're not allowed to have too much fun these days and they are the fun police.?

What does that mean? They have it "stitched up"? You can't legally kite 200m from the beach or 200m beyond the beach?

Also, I have seen parasailers taking off from the parks before with their petrol engine thingies. It would be rare for a ranger to spot you.

I wonder if you could send the kite low and cross the mitchell/kwinana freeway bridge.

Most people think local govt authority stop at the high tide mark, most actually run 200m out to sea. So they can control where you launch and land and they can control where you kite given 95% of kiting is within that first 200m out from the beach. Every local govt is different, I don't think Geraldton has any restrictions, nor Gingin (Lancelin) but Perth metro beaches have loads of restrictions on where you can and can't kite or conduct kite related activities.

They don't need to put signs up either, they can just bury it in their by-laws where you can and can't kite.

Agreed, that chances of getting caught and fined either in a park or on the water if its a prohibited area are slim to none but that wasn't the original question.

Once you're out and away from beaches your main restriction is the Dept of Transport Regs www.transport.wa.gov.au/imarine/kite-and-windsurfing.asp
