It may seem like common sense, but when you've had a great deeper water session and are on your way back to the beach, its not a great idea to do one last jump in shallow water.

As a warning to anyone starting to learn jumps, stick to the deeper water so that if anything goes wrong (like it did for me) you aren't going to land feet fist in six inches of water and end up breaking your ankle. I've spent the last 4 months on crutches following surgery to pin some of the bones back together.

Needless to say, I am glad this happened over the winter, and the surgeon says I am now just a few weeks away from being ready to go back out there. Just in time for the winds and warmer weather.

Get your technique right and you can do 0 G landings.
Butter smooth.

Land boarders do it with no water.

Unfortunately a lot of the time the best flat water is shallow. Risk vs return.
I agree please learn to jump in deeper water first.
Hint: If you stuff up land on your head... no broken ankles

I've mastered the art of shallow water crashing. If you can see your about to land on a sand bar don't redirect the kite. Keep it at 12 and try to lofty flop onto the sand lol. That being said i have fractured the odd bone here and there. That smooth water is too hard to resist

same here... my is local now super tidal with a few hours window either side of low tide providing 30cm of water which creates heaps of small ponds to play around in, rocks on either side.

nothing could make you commit to kiteloops more haha

Don't do it unless you are ready for something like this.

Jump on land Instead! ..

As Greenarrows states. Get the technique down and landing are butter smooth. I've done thousands of jumps on land and in the shallows and over things like rock groins and drift wood etc. Be sure of the wind, kite and redirect technique and its all good.

Sometimes the shallows is where the best run up and launch is. Just asses the risk and do it or not do it. Decide what your max crazy is then roll with that,

That said. **** happens. Be prepared to do the time if you do the crime. Don't be surprised about a broken ankle if you stuff up the shallow water jump.
