Can anyone tell me the go on manly? I've heard we can and I've heard we can't kite there, I've also heard that anytime of day is ok as long as we don't go near the flags and just go out into the bay n back ride some sets the leave again, then again I've heard it's free reign after 4pm, so can someone put these romurs finally to rest by telling the rules? Also is it workable on a southerly and while I'm at it what's the deal with Bondi is that beach kiteable? that's another on my list of to do's
Thanks for any info

Middle of summer there would not be enough room to lay out your lines
. Let alone be enough space in the water to keep 30 meters from surfers.
Middle of winter you might have no problem.
I do believe about 8 years back Manly council banned kids kites on the beach!!!
As there were many complaints .
I would say people don't kite at Manly because it's to busy In summer.
There are better places.
Am sure a local will read this and fill us in if you can or can't .
Dont think it is a written rule, but comes down to commensence.

Not sure about Manly but the eastern suburbs are definitely a no go zone (there are clear signs at the beach in Bondi prohibiting any type of 2 line (or more) kite). You can find the signs near any of the major entries to the beach, where it also says things like no glass allowed, no pets allowed etc. Rules or not, just think about it. Bondi and Manly are some of the most popular beaches in Australia for swimming and surfing. In summer there's gonna be heaps of people swimming/surfing and even more people watching. If anything happens you'll not only get in huge trouble yourself, you might even jeopardize the future of the whole sport in Sydney. Is it worth it? Of course not. So it doesn't matter if you're technically allowed to or not, just don't do it. You might be the best, safest, friendliest, accident-free kiter in the world, but if people start riding there more people will and I can assure you that one of those people won't be as safety minded as you are.

We have plenty of spots in Sydney where we're (at least for now) still allowed to kite at. Much better to go to one of those.

I've kited in Manly many times and here's my input:
- First and foremost, ALWAYS talk to the life-savers and they will tell you the current (day) situation, rules and the do's and don'ts
- From the first point above, rule number 1 - kite is allowed in Manly anytime, as long as you don't ride on the wave, 30m from surfers and beach goers
- still from first point above, rule number 2 - set up, get out there and stay all the time behind the waves.
- Now my experience regarding the 3 points above - kite close to the end of the day and you will be fine on the waves but don't abuse the surfers and beach goers

- In my experience it's only kite-able on winds from NE-E. NNE gets too gusty around the beach and waves due to the headlands but it's possible behind the waves. SE only in theory due to the beach position, never seen any kite and wouldn't recommend. From SE -SSE down, it's a no go again because of headlands on the south side

Bondi to Coogee is forbidden at any times. don't even think about it. there were massive troubles in the past with kites in Bondi when it was allowed in similar fashion as Maroubra but ****heads got abusive.

Maroubra is possible ONLY when the flags are down and Life-Savers duty is finished (around 7pm on summer time) and same points from Manly beach - ALWAYS talk to the life-savers before going out. Regarding wind direction, same thing from Manly applies to Maroubra in my opinion.

Did I mention that you should ALWAYS talk to the life-savers before kiting on beaches?
