Seabreezers,

I'm finding myself on call a lot more frequently than I would like and it's starting to interfere with time on the water.

Can anybody recommend a way of taking my phone with me on the water? Arm pouch? Lifeproof?

What is everyone using?

I don't want anything that will break on its first wipe-out and send my $1000 phone to the bottom of the ocean.

Cheers,

Bazz

Ive got a Huawaei watch 2 - it's an android watch with Sim card that will take and make calls.

Ip68 waterproof. Ive had mine on kiting all last season with no issues. Had it under a wetsuit sleeve and rinse with fresh water.

Change your job, unless your a paramedic etc, my wife just waves me in, kiting is allowed to interfere with work, work isn't allowed to interfere with kiting

A mate of ours uses the I watch, he's like James Bond on the water, even put in a coffee order from the Missus while kiting so coffee was there for him when he came back in.

Hi Crakas,

www.ebay.com.au/itm/Genuine-PICTEK-Waterproof-Phone-Case-Pouch-Dry-Bag-for-iPhone-Galaxy-Universal-A-/273170528795

Here is the one that I've been using on a daily basis for the past year. Has never failed me, never seen a single drop of water inside the case.

You can use your screen whilst it's in the case, so great it's great for emergencies

I second Christian's ebay suggestion. Don't be deceived by the soft flimsy feel of the pouch ( as long as you look after it!). It works. I have 3 of them. My wife uses hers for swimming as well.

You're right.. Emergency Service workers ... pffft selfish mother ####ers wanting to have a bit of fun while on call 24/7.

I was giving the phone to the wife, but she's not always able to slip away from work and down the beach.

I was toying with the idea of a watch but the water resistant ratings deter me. Plus they don't suit my needs outa the water as the device needs to be handed on to the next sucker.

I'm with eppo on..
How do you carry the pouch?

Christian,

I'm leaning towards your suggestion... does it float with the phone inside?

Well as a matter of fact Crakas you are being selfish so don't go playing the Emergency Services card. I myself was one for years so I have a good understanding of just how quickly someone is required if it is a genuine emergency.

So I will consider the scenario to be similar to driving. There you are dealing with phone calls and texts whilst on the water and you end up cleaning someone else up because you are distracted. Just as well you are an emergency services worker and can then save the person you hit. Hoping you have kite insurance and they still cover you if it comes down to your telephone negligence.

Jeebus.. you are right again!... I wish I could be just like you!...

I'll be scooting along on the phone makin' calls and sending texts just like a dangerous driver. Might do the odd selfly, snapchat and FB just to keep everyone updated on what I am doin'. I may even check out Seabreeze to see what the wind is doing or whom is angry on the forum.

Thanks for your assumptions. Been in the industry for 20+ years, roles are not always at the coal face within the IMT. I guess you don't know what you don't know...

Hope you have a pleasant evening Shi thouse.

Fck will someone just tell me how you use the damn pouch without it taking your eye out ?

We do the occasional downwinder whereby if something did happen you'd need a phone or you'd be up sh1t creek.

figured it would be good for that.

I bought one last night. Figure I will hang it around my neck and slip the bag down inside my rashy. That way I can possibly feel and hear it when it goes off and head in.

I also purchased a dictionary for Shi thouse so he can understand the difference between "fact" and "assumptions". As soon as he gives me his address, I will post it.

I bought one yesterday for that same reason eppo. I do a lot of downwinders on my own that way I can ring the missus if I change pick up points. Figured I could stuff it down the chest zip of my springy and tie it up to the elastic tensioner near the zip

Yep, just hang the pouch around your neck and slip it into your wetsuit. Gets a bit annoying if your harness rides up but otherwise you don't notice it that much if the harness stays around your waist.

I've been using a couple of different brand "water proof phone pouches" for a few seasons & in my experience, despite all the "guarantees" & "we'll replace your water damaged phone if it happens" promises, that it's always, always, always a good idea to double bag your phone before you get on the water.

I've taken to using a seal-able sandwich bag & then placing the phone inside my "water proof phone pouch" - simply because they tend not to be "water proof".

Around the neck, under the rashie/wetsuit works for me - doesn't flap around & is always within reach if you need it.

I use an Apple watch. It just sits on my wrist. The missus can track me and I can call or push the SOS if I need to.

It is really difficult to make calls while flying a kite. Voice dialling works ok. You need to disable the touch screen because water drops and wetsuit sleeve contact can make calls.

An alternative is a Garmin watch. You could hang the phone in a bag around your neck and just read text messages on the watch.

I'm not so sure the phone in the water prof bag thing, is so you can call WHILE you are actually kiting lol. .... imagine listening to that wind blown racket at the other end lol.

Some good advice there about double bagging. I will certainly be doing that.

Also some good advice on" letting it go".. you're right. I shouldn't have entered into it, I should have been a better person. For that I apologize!

I ordered a lime green one, I'm hoping if it comes off that it will standout while floating in the water..that's if it floats....

An elegant handsfree approach ...... hopefully with the slap to the side of the head off hook mechanism.

Hi All,

Apologies if you bought the protective case from Ebay I linked above. it turns out I pasted the wrong link to a cheaper product that is not the same as the one I bought previously. It will still work but is made from cheaper materials and won't last as long

Here is the correct product: https://ebay.us/12p5qJ

it's twice the price but well worth it. It's the one I've been using to teach for the last year and I go with it in the water regularly, never had a drop of water enter the case
