Thinking of moving from Perth and wondering which has the best conditions overall to maximise kiting time? Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast? Thanks

Depends on what kite disciplines you are interested in.

Surfboard downwinders are great on the sunny coast, the local buses get you back to your car after a trip down the coast.

Moreton Bay is the place for foiling, huge expanse of water with easy access in all wind conditions. No current or water traffic to contend with.

If you foil you can kite either all year round. Weather is similar. Both have a range of spots which have pros and cons. GC flat water riding in teh broadwater tends to have way more boat / ski traffic, it's a bit hectic for me but you'd get used to it I guess. SC doesn't have any real westerly options unless you drive an hour to Bribie. But westerlies are for desperadoes anyway, not typical.

I would say go the gold coast... because there's already too many people trying to move here On a serious note find accom first there's a massive rental squeeze in both places.

Sunny coast foiling crew have been averaging 3-4 sessions a week lately. Spit goes off on NW to NE with big swell rolling thru recently, head high when you're up on the foil and it forms up behind you. NE to SE means choosing depending on wind direction and strength, swell size and what sort of ride you're after: open ocean, river mouths at Cotton Tree or Happy Valley, or flat water at Golden Beach or Weyba. GB is now a pond closed to motor traffic & with no tidal flow, (due to the breakthru creating new sandbars) and you can foil the flat water across to bribie , walk across the sandbar, and ride swell in the new bar. All in all I'd rate it over Moreton bay, which has brown water and 2ft bay swell, and potentially a long walk to find deep water depending on spot & tide. We can go to Weyba if we want those conditions
