Got caught out yesterday at long beach in coffins bay on the change ,probably 35 knots + with heavy rain using fone . 3 or 4 Big rain squalls were at sea and as I came in had to pull emergency no more depower and even 12 o'clock with kite was lofting me downwind
lines to safety snapped parted ways and kite travelled a couple of hundred meters in land over trees, road and power lines.
Ended up with kite ok in flat ground in scrub no damage but lines were over power line . I waited for electrical wires to burn through lines before going near any thing to try and sort wonder if wet lines would electrocute you ( not that I would test it)
Very solid front and wind just kept lifting
Should have used the 8 meter

Nasty. Yeah it's those times when you discover if your safety line is too worn or not.......
Glad you made it home safe. Sounds hairy. When it got to Vic it was still raging. In these circumstances is it safer to stay at sea until a lull in the squalls (say if you don't have time to land before it hits) or land as soon as you can? At least at sea you won't hit much and can hold down more power than on land. Most accidents seem to happen on shore in these circumstances.
Second time in 3 years I have had to use emergency, although I do pull it to pieces and wash to get sand out .
Wind did not drop while I was still at beach if anything it got stronger . All looked good before I launched. Probably lucky it did break. It's the little things that keep you respectful of wind.
