On my 2nd MQ gxl triton, went for tray and added aluminium canopy, awesome for storage and 100% access to stuff.

1st MQ triton was gxl tub ute with ARB canopy, useless for storage and crap access. Did 11000ks last year towing camper trailer thru SA, NT, WA, never missed a beat, stock gxl with BFG ATs and snorkel. Good fuel economy. After trip decided to change to tray and canopy.

Hold their value well too, paid $26500 for it with 40,000 ks on clock in as new condition and sold it 18 mths later with 84,000 ks on clock for $26500 ! Out of pocket $500 for the snorkel.

Well built, solid as, just before I sold it I got rear ended at about 60 kph, dented tub tailgate and bumper, didn't even break the tailgate glass other car was written off and driver to hospital, drove mine home with a bit of whiplash.

Current setup ^

See you still hang the back pack off the table to let your boy friend know it's ok to visit.

Have nothing but good things to say about my Subercab 3.0L TDi 4x4 Ford Ranger.

1.8m/6ft long tray with canopy and roof racks for board/gear transport, 2+2 seating, 4x4 for beach access if needed and 3.0L engine is has plenty of power even when loaded up.

Cheers

DK

8 kites, 2 directionals, 2 surfboards, three twin tips and two gear bins in the back. Wife and dog up front. All this just for a day trip to other side of CPT.

What more do you need?
a box for kite, bar and pump.
a box for wettie and harness.
room to chuck foil and board.
all outside of cabin to air out.
real 3.0L turbo diesel pulling power.
real 4WD capacity driving real 33" x 10.5" rubber.
so not only can you get up along that sandy creek to the sweet spot you google earthed. But help the idiot who thought his rig was real to get out of his holes.

I guess that's useful if you want to dump a ton of builders mix on the tray but that's about it.

A lockable canopy gives you way more advantage to store gear out of the rain and not getting stolen and be able to store 5 x more gear without having to strop it down or worry about it falling off. Plus I sleep in the back of my canopy when camping and change in the back when weather is really ****ty. Also I fire up the camp cooker and cook on the back with reasonable shelter. No chance of easily cooking ar a windy beach with your set up.

Ok, I admit the tray length is awesome. But i'd only go 2 seater with silly dicky seats if I had no family or buddies.....
What about the man trips when you load up with gear and buddies and rip off for a weekend of madness????

I'll take the double cab, smaller tray any day.

The barista being an agnostic dyslexic insomniac stayed up all night wondering if there really is a dog.

The dog stayed up all night wondering where the sun had gone, then it dawned on him!

Had dual cab, couldn't stand the tub and every bit of load behind rear axle.
plus only ever had grandkids in back.
now 2100 long tray to bash as I like and can carry all my kitefoil gear in cab if I want. 1500 board fits crossways behind seat and still room to push seat back till can't reach pedals or lay it back and have a sleep.

And if empty can still take 2 Adults in back in reasonable comfort for short trips.
my next Windfoil board will fit on floor of tray fully inside.
also have rack set that carries boards high but below roof level out of wind and has a polycarbonate roof to keep sun off.
