Looking for some advice please:
85 kgs, I have carbon free ride foil that I like to use in 6 - 12 knots. Much more wind and I'll use my twin tip. I own a 9m Ozone Hyperlink. With 23m lines it's good from around 10 knots. If I run 27m lines I can foil from 7-8 knots. I've been using an inflatable kite (Ocean Rodeo Flite 14.5m) to get me going in 6 knots plus. I have flown and regularly foil with a guy (same weight) who has the 11m Ozone Chrono. He seems to be able to hold down my desired wind range of 6-12 knots but uses 26m lines.

There's nothing wrong with my current setup of the 9m Hyperlink and the Ocean Rodeo 14.5m except that I prefer the foil kite so much more and it would be great to consolidate two kites to one if possible,

Here's the question:
Should I go for the same setup or would it be more beneficial to go say the 13m Chrono with maybe 20m lines and keep some line extensions near by...? Or maybe even the Hyperlink in a 12m size? I haven't got an opportunity to fly either kite, so I'm hoping this community can help out.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Macster,

The Chrono and Hyperlink are two very different kites. If you want flat out performance in a user friendly package the Chrono is very good. Almost race performance with out the finicky nature of the R1's. The hyperlink is a much more freeride kite which flies a bit more like what you are used to. These fly more like a tube kite than a Chrono which is a proper ram air foil.

Both kites are great, just need to know your intended use. I would definitely go with a naked foil bar and then buy the line sets to make up the lengths you desire. Try 15/5/2. Including bridle length, your kite will be about 26m away on all three lengths. If you are into pure freeride and waves, go with the 12m Hyperlink. If absolute bottom end is your goal at the expense of freeride playfulness, go the 15m Chrono in UL construction. The UL construction will save you almost a kilo but will cost you in longevity.

Much to consider...

Thanks for the reply. A bit of freeride and exploring / touring of the bay. No racing.

I have flown the Chrono 11m V3. It is a more technical kite with much more low end than the hyperlink. Turn speed suffers though.

I could go for either kite but im.not sure how the low end of the 12m hyperlink would compare to the 11m chrono...?

I like the suggestion for lines. Is it possible to estimate what the % reduction in power would be between 15m lines and 26m lines?

Hey Macster,

I'd suggest the line length would equate to around a 20% difference in power. I would think the 12m Hyperlink and the 11m Chrone would have similar power buy it would be good for Steve from Ozone to comment on this to be sure.
