Kiter Girls get on board with Renewable Wind Energy.

"Sponsoring some new kites for one of the girls, as well as offering them the chance to get inside (literally) these wind turbines, Iberdrola Renewables are behind the movement to clean energy from the wind."
Starting somewhat of a cultural shift in the sport of kiteboarding, this group of kiteboarder girls have helped introduce countless women into the sport in the past couple of years, first with their inspirational promo vids and images, now with a web series on Vimeo called 'Where the Wind Blows'.

Featuring the who's-who of prominent female kiteboarders in the USA, like Sensi Graves, Colleen Carrol and Laura Maher, 'Where the Wind Blows' shares stories about kiteboarding, and the recreational activities that go on behind the scenes. Shot in gorgeous HD, with professional level cinematography, follow along with the girls through their training regimes, trips to the markets, and climbing to the top of a 400ft wind turbine. That's what is in store this episode anyway, so the girls can help spread the message of renewable energy through their new partner Iberdrola Renewables. Sponsoring some new kites for one of the girls, as well as offering them the chance to get inside (literally) these wind turbines, Dan Jaynes explains why the Gorge gets so much wind, so often.

"Most of the wind is funneled up and down through the Columbia River Gorge. The main driver of this flow, is interaction with the inland temperatures and the sea temperatures. So there's always some kind of difference, and the upper atmosphere will drive winds from East to west or West to East down the Gorge depending on the seasons. So we're able to capture that, and harness the wind flow to turn it into energy."

To truly experience how incredible an engineering feat these wind turbines are, the girls were offered the chance to climb to the very top of one, and stand on top of it! The first shot as they emerge from a little hatch, 400ft in the air is breathtaking as the drone pans around the landscape, littered with turbines.

Kiteboarding action quickly returns though, with everyone hitting the water for a session after the wind turbine experience. For these girls, life IS kiteboarding, maybe that's why they're so good?

"Even when we're on the beach, all the girls support each other with their kiting endeavors and everything else that they're doing in life." Explains Slingshot pro, Colleen Carroll. "I just get excited to kite, to be around my friends, ride together, slap some high fives and feed off each others energy. It's the best!
