As the end of the season approaches, it's time for the KiteboardingWA, formerly known as WAKSA, Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday, 28th May, 6:30pm at the Fremantle Surf Lifesaving Club.

We have had a very successful season celebrating the Australian Freestyle Kiteboarding Nationals being hosted in WA once again along with the Red Bull Lighthouse 2 Leighton ocean race plus many more kite filled events. As always we are looking for people who are keen to join the committee and get involved next season!!

We strongly encourage members to come along to the meeting to see not only what goes on behind the scenes in this voluntary committee with events & the fun stuff, but how we advocate & work with local councils to keep beaches open and have the best possible outcome for kiteboarders in WA. This along, with plans for kite rescue training courses etc, is extremely important for the growth and freedom of our sport in WA and if you feel strongly about this or other kiting issues then this is your chance to get involved and make a difference.
For those of you who don't know who Kiteboarding Western Australia are, formerly known as WAKSA, here is a brief description about just one very important job that we do for the sport of kiteboarding in Western Australia and how it is important for you to keep enjoying the sport as freely as you do!

Officially recognised by the Department of Sport & Recreation as the state governing body, the KWA voluntary committee plays a big role in advocating for the sport & keeping our beaches open. There have been a few issues this season which could have seen certain spots banned, plus there are still ongoing issues with other locations that could potentially lead to a ban. WE NEED people to get onboard to make sure this doesn't happen! The downwinder from City Beach to Trigg being one major highlighted area towards the end of the season. Shoalies being another. It's important for us a community in WA to be aware of these situations & educate others who aren't familiar so we don't lose any of our playground!

We have stressed the importance of this matter, even though we do lots of other tasks and fun events, as each season the number of kiters increase and the issues regarding beach access continue to grow, and the last thing we want as a bunch of keen kiters, is to see beaches being closed. There has been an amazing group of passionate kiters who have helped build WAKSA/KWA to where it is today & it's imperative to support this organisation and keep it moving in the right direction :)
